How many AR mags is enough?

I have 6 ARs and somewhere around 300 magazines. I train and also instruct on the weapon. I'll echo what others here have said, magazines are an expendable item. If you use them you will eventually wear them out. Now I'm lucky in that I acquired most of mine back in the early and mid 80s when they were cheap. I remember buying 100 USGI 30 round magazines for a dollar apiece at a gunshow in about 1983.

Don't grow fond of your magazines. In the military they are an expendable/durable item. When they wear out they are replaced. You won't find any repair parts for them in the inventory.

I numbered all of my magazines so I can track them. If one gives me problems on the range I record the number and that magazine is set aside for use in training on clearing malfunctions.

As for all the people who post about bugging out with a rucksack full of loaded magazines. I always took those posts as a sign of a person who has never carried their kit any farther then from the parking lot to the firing line.

No kidding. "I'm taking my rifle and 300 rds, my shotgun and a 100 rounds, 2 pistols and 100 rounds each. I can go all day with that."
Right! Wanna race!?!?!?

I ain't walking anywhere, I have way to much ammo to move or even try to carry. ;)

I have about 70-75 30rd mags for my AR's I havn't counted in a while.
1 beta C mag and some 10rds, 20rds and a couple 40 rounds.
But I have about 12 AR's

If SHTF I am not running with any mags. I'm staying home all cozy like until it's over. I just want the mags to have for target shooting and I don't like to reload mags at the range either.

Ever since I read this stoopid thread, a morbid feeling of AR mag-count inadequacy has been dogging me. :uhoh:

I was able to partially rectify this by ordering 7 black 30-round P-Mags along with 3 black 20-round P-Mags from Brownells a few minutes ago.

But you know what, I still don't have enough! :banghead:

Reading this forum WILL cost you money! :cuss:

Yep thanks to you I just ordered 4 20rnd PMags from Brownells. I have been trying to get some, but Midway and everyone else has been out of stock, thanks NC-Mike.

Thanks to me?

I didn't start this thread or have pails of mags and post pictures of em like some guys did... :fire:

I did need some of those P-Mags anyway. I don't have any and that had been bugging me.

You can never have enough. always good to have few around to sell if they have a ban. But if you do that remember to no be a price gouger. That's my two cents.

Thanks to me?
Yea you mentioned that Brownells had them in stock, I genuinely appreciate you referencing that, even if by accident. I really needed some decent mags (need to replace some Promags that I had been using).

Brownells is a solid retailer. They kept those mags at a good price. Not everyone has conducted themselves that way.

I would add, I have some of the Brownells branded AR mags and they are solid as well.

AIM also has 30 round C-Product mags in stock now. At a very good price.

Yeah, this thread got me too. I was ordering an UpLula loader from Top Gun Supply and he had 30-rd black P-Mags for $15.95, so I bought a few more. They're current production, in the bag.

The UpLula universal pistol loader is simply amazing. The 15-rd mags for my FNP-45 were right stiff, and a little sharp, and had been killing me.

I have ten 20's and three 30's. I want about ten more 20's to allow for wear when the demos are confident they can push a new ban on magazines. If I need to carry all of this stuff I am in trouble, I do not know of many accessory kits made for canes. :cuss:

I have 3 per AR i have right now, but that might be because i only got into ARs just before the rush...(not because of though, i didn't see it coming till i had my ARs, and no more money to get lots of mags with) When they become more available, i want to bring that number to 10 mags per AR at least.

I am comfortable with 6 for one rifle.

I guess the concern is if hi-caps are banned.

I guess we are supposed to have a life-time supply of hi-caps in case that goes down...

Is that what we are supposed to be doing?

Cause lately, I really have no idea. :scrutiny:

Somewhere around 10-12 mags is good. AR mags do not last forever and in 30 years you will probably be down to 5-7 working mags if you shoot often.... maybe a couple more if they are steel. Realism is that the feed lips get old from use and the magazine just starts to become unreliable with frequent feeding problems.

Think of your gun as a durable item and magazines as a non-durable item.

That's why I started using the same 20 rounder when I go to the range. I bring it and no more. When it starts to fark-up, I'll go on to the next one.

I do look forward to trying out those P-Mags. The hype on those things is unbelievable.
