Simple question, I bought my second Enfield 2A (Actualy it was a 2A1) yesterday and I started wondering about how many of these fine rifles where imported to the US. I know they made about 50,000 2A’s and 350,000 2A1’s in 7.62x51, but I can't find info that will tell me how many made it into the USA. Does anyone have any idea or will I forever be guessing. As rare as these are in the US I feel very lucky to own two of them.

/Thanks in advance.

I suspect that the number of surplus small arms imported into this country since the end of WW2 is known only to the importers and the ATF. I've been into shooting for about 50 years and cannot recall ever seeing an article or something on the web indicating numbers imported of a specific type.

Had a 2a1 which I liked quite well. Better than the old Enfiled in 303 actually. Some have worn mags that let the magazine pop out when fired. Otherwise they hold up pretty good.

The things were plentiful a few years ago for $150 in average condition. I know a local gun shop probably sold a couple hundred alone at that time. Excellent truck gun if the length isn't a problem.

Yeah, you'll never get a firm number, or probably even a ballpark. It was enough that prices aren't that bad even with all the ones Navy Arms/Gibbs bubba'd. Of course, spare parts are a real pain to get. I'm concerned I may need to get a new mag for mine, it's part of the ejection system and the rifle is a weak/non-ejector.

C&R - they are, if I remember correctly the 2A series rifles produced before 1973 are on the okay list. Supposedly some were made after then, but I doubt you'd see many, if any.

Remember....

India has a LARGE army...................and police force..........I would like to have a 2A to go with my 2A1.....chris3

You would think but the ATF don't even keep a list of all the importers, let alone all the firearms they bring into the country.
