I was just reading the thread about the SF handgun ban and it mentioned that there is only one gun shop in SF. I thought that was odd that they only had one gun shop.. Oh well, even though SF might be a liberal hippy fantasyland, not all CA cities are like that. There's a lot of gun enthusiasts here.. we're just limited by laws like the AWB :(

Within 7-8 miles of my house here in San Diego, there are like 5 gun shops.. 2 of them have firing ranges.

Turners .. http://www.turners.com/
Discount Gun Mart .. http://www.discountgunmart.com/
California Police Equipment .. http://www.capoliceequip.com/
American Shooting Center .. http://www.gotammo.com/
Southern California Gun .. http://www.socalgun.com/
There even a cool 100yd indoor range about 20 miles away.. http://www.p2krange.com/map.html

How many gun shops are in your area?

within a 15 minute drive of my house there are at least 5 and possibly 7 (the other 2 that I've heard of I've never been to). Plus a Cabela's is being built 5 miles from where I live right now.:) I live in a village of about 6,000.

I have lost count, cuz I work at what everyone says is the "BEST"
in my area. Its a local, family owned and oriented sporting goods
store that has been in business as a sporting goods store since
1945; and around the turn of the 20th century as a clothing
store. Very nice persons at every level, and certainly one of
the "BEST" to be found in the southeast United States~!:D

I live north of SF on the coast, the hardware store in town(pop. 6000) sells guns, and in Willits/Ukiah there are two gun shops and a Big5. Consequently I buy a lot of stuff online.

within about 20miles of me and i live in a town of 8,000 people there are 5 un-firtunatle one is wal-mart.....

32,000 in my town and two gunshops. Four stores that sell guns and 2 pawnshops for a total of 8 stores that regularly carry guns.

What do you define as "area"?

Within a 30 minute drive there's literally dozens of brick and mortar gun sellers (6 that are gun shops specializing in guns) and 3 ranges (2 indoor).

The DFW Metroplex is gun buyer's heaven.

Dozens of brick and mortar shops. Not to mention a Cabela Gun Library, Bass Pro fine gun room and one of the five Beretta Galleries on the planet.

There are about 8 within 15 minutes of me that I am aware of personally. This is not counting pawn shops or sporting goods stores that sell only rifles. Adding those it would be a couple dozen.

Gun Shops in Mayberry and Western NC

We must be lucky in this area, it took me a while to count up...

Robby's Army Surplus, Downtown Mt Airy- archery and firearms.
Gun Country (my 'home' gun shop) Full service gun store and handgun range.
Windy Hill Trading Post, country store type gun shop and 2 rifle ranges
Danny's Guns, Fort Knox Gun Safe dealer and pawn shop in addition to firearms
Two or three pawn shops that sell guns, Wally World of course, and a few home based FFL's I know of.
Yep, I like calling North Carolina Home.... :D

In the town across the river we have 1. Not counting Dunhams and Walmart, we have close to 2 in the county. Add the surrounding 4 counties and I think we may have as many as eight.

"Da U.P." does not have a lot of people. I like it that way, lots of empty space. Consequently, it doesn't have a lot of gun shops. That doesn't bother me because I can always have things shipped in.

Within a reasonable distance:

there's one just down Rt 33 west of me approximately 4 miles; sells guns but hardly any ammo.

there's two more - one 5 miles north in the Spencerport Village, which specializes in Colt models. Another 2 miles north of that location on the same highway is another shop, and he deals in new or used, plus has tons of ammo.

in the city of Brockport is a small mom and pop gunshop.

near downtown Rochester is a big store (where I purchased my HBAR).

That's about it for what's in my immediate area. Five.

In Orange County there are 14...

Turners Outdoorsman 3x (Orange, Signal Hill, Fountain Valley)
The Gunsight
Ade's Gunshop
Fowlers :barf:
Stockade :barf:
On Target
Evan shooting world :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:
The Firing Line
Grant Boys
Cliff's Gunsmithing :barf:
Saddleback
Flag Guns

I saw the thread title and clicked on it thinking, "HA! I have a surprising amount of gun stores in my vicinity, considering how anti-RKBA this state is."

But then I saw the same exact stores I was going to mention posted by the OP.

Black Majik, a couple years ago, Armory of Orange would have been on that list.

Whatever happened to ARM U.S.A?

Is Walker '47 no longer on Beach?

Good call.

I forgot about ARMS USA.

Armory of Orange will be missed, so will Gold Coast Trading. Gold Coast had the NICEST people I've met in the firearms retail industry.

So yeah, make that 15 in OC, CA :D

Ah, Rochester. I lived there for 9 years. I understand Creekside is gone, I don't recall the suburb they called home.

There was also a trap club that had dues amounting to 35.00 a year in 1975. Even adjusted for inflation, that place was a bargain. I'm a little fuzzy on the name, "Stony Point" perhaps?

Heh.. small world.
What are your favorite shops around here?

I like to go to American Shooting Center to use their range.
Turners usually has the best prices when they do sales.
I usually get ammo from Wally-Word.

Palmetto Firearms - small selection, best prices, cool employees
Shooter's Choice - excellent selection, a bit expensive, employees 50/50
Wateree Arms - a bit of a drive, very expensive, rude employees
Lawman's - small selection, hit or miss prices, 50/50 employees
Ace Hardware - decent selection, high prices, never seen an employee at the counter
Several pawn shops that I've never been in

Out towards Lexington there are some more but I don't get out that way often. Of course we have about 5 Walmarts and a Dick's, they require no comments. They're building a Sports Authority, but I've never been in one.

Town of 10,000

Three gun shops: Olson's, Steve's Outdoor, Smoke 'n Guns (fine cigars, and guns. 1/4 of shop is an enclosed humidor.)

Two pawn shops: American Pawn, Brown's Pawn.

One Walmart: with three single shot NEF's on the rack. Haha.
