Just wondering how many of you load for family members and what are your rules, if any.
I load for my two daughters and son-in-laws and really don't charge much, they will give a me a few bucks here and there, but I don't mind---it's just fun to shoot with family.

I load for family for presents or them buying me equipment.

I got a Lee Pro 1000 setup with all the accessories for $150 to me, I just have to load 1000 45 ACP rounds for my brother. (He's even paying for consumables, I just do the labor.)

Gonna load a few boxes of .357 for my dad for a new case trimmer. I also loaded up 3 boxes of .357 for my dad for Christmas as well.

I will load for anyone, as long as it is known that I cannot be held responsible for any damages that may occur. So if I tell them to watch out for a squib for example, they should check the barrel, and if they don't, that is their problem. We all know there is only so much we can do to try and ensure perfect loads, but nobody is perfect.

My old boss would load for me. He only charged me what it cost in materials. Most of our shooting was done together, so I'd help pick up his brass, he'd let me shoot his guns, and I'd let him shoot mine. Guess we both made out on the deal.

My sister-in-law just bought her first pistol, a SA XDm 9mm. So my brother -in-law (who is a shooting buddy) tells her;

"now you need to wait for a good sale and go get yourself 250-300 round to put through it to get used to it."

to which she replied

"can't you just reload bullets for it?"(which means me, as I have the loading equipment)

to which he replied

"sure we(me) can, but you need to buy bullets first so that you have the brass to load when you are done shooting"

"well doesn't he have a bunch of brass?, can't he just reload it for me?" (which I do, but it is mine!)

I think that my SIL thinks if you reload bullets, evidently everything about them is FREE!!

I am sure I will end up loading for her, but she is still going to pay for it somehow. Unless Dillon is coming out with a new press that will magically make all the components out of thin air, and then make bullets. Now, I don't own any Dillon equipment, but it is my understanding around here, that if anybody was going to do that, it would be DIllon.

I reload for myself and my wife. To anyone else asking, the answer is: "You buy the components and come on over and I will let you use the equipment, and look over your shoulder while you load your own ammo."

My immediate family, wife and daughters, shoot my reloads. But, they don't shoot very much.

As rule, I prefer not to reload for other folks. I'll help them get started and let them learn on my equipment, but they are stroking the handle.

I reloaded for the family for the family as we competed in matches quite a bit in the past. They don't shoot that much any more so they are all mine!!

Never had anyone give me money for any of my ammo. I'll give it to a fellow shooter if he needs it with the understanding it is free and all I want is the brass.

I use James2's method. My friends are more than welcome to come over and load some with me, or they can load on their own and I'll hang out and watch. As a rule, I typically do not load for anyone.

I have had 4 or 5 friends that have asked about coming over to load and learn, but none of them have ever asked to have it loaded for them. I wish that I had have had a friend that reloaded when I started and I could have been mentored.

My g/f is scared of reloads and my son shoots whatever I have. I'm there when he shoots, but they were never really intended for him.

I load for every family member and if they toss me a few bucks for my trouble or the components it's a bonus. My primary reason for being so easy about any expense is, I want them shooting the best that can be had for both hunting, and self defense.

As a general rule, just me.

Lately, I've become really good friends with a couple guys and I've been loading for them (I do labor, they buy components). Pistol only and I try to to it only once or twice to get them hooked...then they have to come and pull the handle from then on.

Both of them have already bought presses, benches, scales and all the required gear for pistol loading.

I still see them occasionally for rifle or to use my Giraud.

I never charge family or friends. Even fellow shooters at the range matches if they run out or have a problem I have no problem sharing it always comes back to me in aces later down the road..

Family tends to give me a bottle of powder or primers here and there. With friends they do the same. if a friend asks for a special load or help in re-loading They bring all the components and I get them set up on my equipment, teaching / helping them.

When my girls bring their boyfriends to the range with us they always have them bring a value pak of 22lr.

I give away boxes of triple-checked, carefully prepared handloadsed pistol ammo sometimes to friends or family members. IF I have the brass and components. For example I reload some medium 454 Casull for a buddy @ 1100 fps & plated slugs. I load some 38 spl for my dad and brother. I load some target 357 Mags @ 1000 fps & plated slugs for another friend. I give them as gifts and triple check every measurement.

I would never, ever load up full-bore magnum loads or quick & cheap target reloads for anybody but me.

My two sons, son in law and wife shoots my reloads. Wife and I usually purchase most of the supplies. Youngest son and I shoot the most and usually shoot together most of the time. My youngest son (now 20 and in college) will also reload when he is here. I trust his loads as much as my own.

I load for my father in law only---and then I stand nearby him when he shoots. I've had plenty of buddies offer to pay me for boxes, but won't do it. Heck, I'll go online and put them a shopping cart together at Midway (which I've done!), but I ain't loading for them.

I reload for my son and my daughter. I gave them each single action revolvers when they started college - a .357 for my daughter and a .45 Colt for my son. I gave them each 150 rounds of ammo that I had loaded up for them. I told them that as long as they were in college I would gladly keep them supplied in ammo. The only provision is that they have to give me the same amount of brass as I give them loaded rounds. It'll keep them in the habit of saving brass - especially the .45 Colt! That stuff is hard to come by. They are both familiar with reloading and occasionally they will help me when they pass through if they have the time.

They really don't have a whole lot of time to shoot very much while in school. I probably give them 100 or so rounds per year. Usually, they shoot when they are visiting me on vacation. Hopefully, they will continue to like the shooting hobby and perhaps get into reloading for themselves when they are gainfully employed.

I have reloaded for my son, but he reloads now.

I've also let a few other range friends fire my gun using my light reloads while I'm watching. They have done the same for me.

I KNOW my handloads are safe so what I do depends on how I feel about the individual.

If it's someone I really like and want to help I'll load for 'em.

If it's someone I like but know or suspect will be a leech, I tell 'em to pick up the components they want to try and come over, I'll show 'em how to load and let 'em use my tools. In 46 years and a few dozen such requests, I'm yet to have one of them follow up. ONE guy did bring over a brick of primers some empties for me to store a few years back, he was supposed to get powder and bullets "soon" but I still have't seen him again.

It's rare for anyone I don't care for to even raise the subject but when it does I just say I can't do that due to the potential liability.

If nothing else, you can just load em some hot glue bullets. Pretty low liability there!

I reload for my dad and mom. All of my kids are still to young to shoot but when they are old enough they will be shooting my reloads.

It is a liability issue for sure. I will reload for my family with no problem but for good friends or coworkers they have to come over and work WITH me at least and we will load up some fun. The thing is then, did I load that particular round or did they do it? Kind of stops the finger pointing if there ever was to be a problem. Also I know if they are doing it correctly. Some of them even go on to buy their own setups. I like setting the hook.
