Another reason that some people carry extra mags is (rightly or wrongly) the desire to have a different flavour of ammunition available if the situation calls for it.

For me, a 'shootout' implies two way traffic, or at least the potential for it. If only one guy has a gun, I don't consider that a gunfight.

I hit 'em with everything I had. That paper bastard never fired back, but he just glared at me while absorbing everything I threw at him.

I think I won...

ok, i do not get the "bad , in poor taste " idea on this thread. Why is it that people who have been involved in an incident are "supposed" to act this way. If you were in an incident and you survived it , i think you should be proud of yourself for that. I dont believe anyone here wants to shoot anyone , but if they had to, why is it bad karma to talk about it? Makes me think of the seinfeld episode where george's dad talks about wartime experiences.

You've completely misunderstood.

No one is ashamed. It's not bad karma.

It's up to each individual to disclose what they went through and they're under no obligation to others to share it.

This is just more of internet entitlement culture saying "gimme" to someone else's very personal and very heavy experience as if it were a scene in a video game.

Overwhelmingly people on this board have chosen to not reply with their experience(s). Ponder why that is.

i'm one of the people "Odd Jobs" spoke of - my extra handgun mag is not because i'm worried about running out in a tactical situation (i generally have a long gun w/alot of ammo very near), my extra mag is cheap ammo that i can goof off with when i'm out an about. alot of places i go are rural, if you keep some ear plugs around your rearview and a mag of cheap stuff handy, you're always down to remind some aluminum cans why they should fear you :D

and, worst case, i DO have another mag even if it's not loaded with HP's.
