How many HD Shotguns do you own?

If my .45acp can't do it, we're all in trouble. But I do keep my Nitro Special loaded. I guess if the SHTF, everyone on the block will be at my house.

My Win 1300 Defender w/ Hogue stock is under the bed. But I would probably grab the Mini 14 next to it first as I know how to run it better and am just more proficient with it.

A 1954 vintage Model 97 Winchester with a 20" Cyl choke barrel that I use for CAS. An oldie, but a goodie!

All of my shotguns are HD
20g mossberg 500 w/26" barrel
12g berette extrema w/ 26" barrel
12g Franchi O/U w/ 28" barrel

sigh...
but the 870 is my go-to gun in any HD application just for the intimidation factor of the sound of the action

the only sound I want to be, and should be an intimidating factor is----> BANG!!!!!!! ;)

Up stairs, where I sleep. I have a Moss 835 12gauge.With 3-1/2 inch buck shoot=19 balls per round. & down stairs, 12 gauge Remington coach with 2-3/4 military buck.
Both shot gun butt stocks have the 5 round elastic bands on them. I do not leave them loaded.

9 overall shotguns: one that is "set up" for HD. mag extension, light, shell holder.

1. 2- 870's in 12 ga
2. 1- 870 in 20 ga
3. 1- 870 in 16 ga
4. 1- remmy sportsman 12 in 12 ga (Dedicated HD gun with 18.5" bbl)
5. 1- mossy 500 in 12 ga
6. 1- mossy 835 in 12 ga
7. 1- remmy 1100 in 12 ga
8. 1- remmy 1100 in 20 ga

Just one. a Mossberg 590 9 shot (not a1)

But unless I have a whole gang chapter in my house, I see no reason for another. I think it would be more practical to get a 1911 for walking around the house than hiding shotguns here and there. Just my opinion :)

Got 4 myself:
8-shot Mossberg 500 "Persuader" - 20" barrel / wood stock / heatshield.
7-shot Savage mdl.69RXL - 18 1/4" barrel / wood stock.
6-shot Mossberg 500 - 20" barrel / Synthetic stock / PG full stock / light.
6-shot Maverick 88 - 18 1/2" barrel / Synthetic PG.
If that doesn't work, I'll just piss on'em, lol.....

Many...

and yet not anywhere near enough. I seem to keep buying them. Not one with a barrel longer than 20". I have had the same experience as the guy in this thread who has wrecked some sheetrock. I prefer 18".

Have the Walmart Mossberg 500 cheapie field gun-- added the 18.5in barrel on the side----total cost was right at $300 for everything.

Will repeat those purchases sometime soon--just cause I like having backups for everything.

What is a dedicated HD shotgun? is there some type of ritual or service required?

Does it need an 18.5" barrel? Would a 22" qualify?

It probably needs attachments and an exclusive diet of buck and slugs to maintain its "dedicated status" huh.

Just the one, I suppose, but any of them will do in a pinch.

The "HD" shotgun is just an 870 Wingmaster that I keep a 20" cylinder bore barrel on when at home. A longer one goes on when out doing sporting clays. I put a side saddle on it a while ago but haven't really run it with that on there yet so I'm not sure how well that's going to work out for me. It'll look goofy on the sporting clays course but that's where I tend to find out what's going to get in my way. I didn't make it to any run-and-gun steel plate shoots this fall, unfortunately.

The only other gun I consider for use in "HD" is a 12 gauge coach gun. It's nothing fancy but I've put a fair number of shells through it doing silly stuff. But, it's fairly compact so it goes with me when traveling in the motor home.

I have two... a 930SPX (which is a working progress) and a Winchester 1300 defender speed pump ('ol reliable)

Just the one, an 18" 870 12 ga with 6+1 capacity.....but I think all of my 20 or 12 gauges are suitable for HD.

Mossberg 500 is dedicated housegun--which means that gun is always in the same place with the same barrel, ammo, etc. in the same condition of readiness. When something goes bump in the night is no time to be playing gun collector or firearms enthusiast.

I have 4 other shotguns that were bought at one time or another for HD. Shortly I`m going to re-evaluate them and probably sell them off for a Moss 930 HD or a second 500. kiss
