How Many Jobs Lost In A Ban?

In the event of a total gun ban how many jobs would be lost? Would American factories be able to continue to produce firearms for sale overseas? What would be the impact on the economy if some number of workers were put out of a job by said ban?

Does anyone think this might be a limiting factor on congress while considering (at any point) such a ban?

Not quite sure how many jobs would be lost.
There could easily be provisions made that would allow for the export of guns - in which case mfg's could still stay in business - although at a reduced capacity.

Yes, I think that is a major limiting factor right now. The economy is by far the #1 issue on most people's minds, and anything that would put people out of work like that is simply not going to fly.

As far as "Government Spooks" - very little. Don't be a paranoid "gun nut".

A turn-in similar to the one in the UK would cost around a trillion dollars.

It would require its own agency and bureaucracy complete with mini fiefdoms, support staff and etc.

I'd expect to see a net gain of 35,000 jobs, all of which would be thought to be temporary when first authorized but ending up as permanent.

Fifty years after the ban it would have an annual cost approximating the war on drugs, employing a similar number of people and exhibiting similar success.

Low to no, unless you're involved in something that already has them looking into your activities.

I tried to figure this one out, including the whole supply chain, and decided it was too small to matter outside of states with several manufacturers. That doesn't mean we shouldn't use it as an emotional argument in a time when manufacturing jobs will be critically important as unemployment races through the service industries (that make up far too much of our economy), but the raw numbers won't impress anyone.

I think a "total ban" has been explained, and not to change the topic, but... well, ok, here I go. Luckily, I don't see an AWB hurting the gun industry THAT badly.

If you own a company that only makes flashiders and quick-detach bayonet lugs, you might need to start coming up with ideas.

The amount of profit that the firearm industry will lose is probably MADE UP FOR in the time from the election to inauguration anyway. That being said, it still sucks.
