It would be interesting to have a general idea.
It seems quite often that tv programs which highlight a foreign military or police force clearly show HKs being carried.
Hollywood discovered them years ago (mostly for the bad guys in action movies).

This seems to be the case in not only Latin America, but even in some Asian nations.
A "Nat. Geo Traveler" show tonight has Pakistani forces giving away items to school kids, as they carry what might be a 5.56 series.

The G3 wiki page lists 58 countries that use, or used, a G3 or variant. Wiki also lists 22 for the HK33 (there's a fair amount of overlap there though). Add in the MP-5's that it seems like every police force in the world used at one time, and the answer is a whole bunch of them. This far after the fall of the Warsaw Pact, it might be that every nation does, or has, issued an HK long gun to someone in their employ.

The Pakistanis also domestically produce HK weapons, IIRC.

Awesome. :p Reading this thread title reminded me of the good old "HK. Because you suck. And we hate you." Letter by Larry Correia.

A hair off topic, but along the same lines, I found it amusing in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare video game how many Chechnyan and Middle Eastern bad guys had G-3s and G-36s.

The reason that Hollywood uses so many of any particular gun frequently doesn't have anything to do with historical accuracy but more often because the prop shops have tons of that model gun and the movie producers can get lots of them and cheaply. Look at how many old cowboy movies used Winchester 92 carbines, even for movies that were set for periods well prior to 1892!

They are damn good at what they do, that's why so many nations buy their products.
I consider FN and HK as the most serious military small arms companies on the planet.
They don't play politics when they make guns and it shows.

When you are talking military small arms, HK and FN are right at the top, just behind the Ishevsk folks. Excellent weapons.

I don't recall the G3 or G36 being in Modern Warfare.
