How many of you play this game?

Be careful that one of your 'What if ?' games seems to be unfolding, and you over react as you have mentally conditioned yourself while playing this game. Real negative results might befall you ... What if your thinking deluded you ?

Every class you will ever take, be it a civilian self defense, law enforcement, or even EMT school, the first step to assuring your safety is being aware of your environment and all its possible threats.

I also do this. However, in addition to escape routes and suspicous characters, I also try to take a glance at a room and try to see how many details I have noticed. Try to excercise my "photographic memory" if you will.

I liked the post about having safe meeting places and code words for loved ones. I think this is a very beneficial practice for families so that when/if emergency situations arise, everyone can communicate effectively. Sometimes your kids or even your wife/girlfriend might not be able to tell you "I'm in trouble and need help".

I do this too, I've even got my girlfriend started on it, shes even been talking about getting her a ccw. She even pointed out someone acting strange the other day that I didnt notice.

i look at it as giving me a feeling of saftey(probably a false sence) as i am only 20(not old enough to ccw)
Actually, you have it backwards. Having a CCW and not being mentally aware would be a false sense of security. Mental awareness is security. The rest are just tools that may, or may not, be handy in a given situation only if the operator can use them (has both the skills and opportunity to use them).

To cite an extreme example of what I'm talking about...would you rather be having lunch with a gun of your choice on your hip in that joint when the SHTF...or an unarmed buddy who is a SFOD-D (Delta Force) combat vet?

Wasn't that a scene in the first xXx movie w/ Vin Diesel?

Hey,

I don't think it's really a game. You've essentially described being aware of your surroundings. I only really got used to it when I moved to Chicago (ironically, preventing me from using effective tools), but I think it's an excellent habit to practice under any circumstances. Even if you're hiking or something, and don't anticipate any trouble, you appreciate many more things you wouldn't otherwise see.

I do this all the time, but the one area I need to work on is looking UP. I tend to focus on the area around me and the immediate vacinity, but I occasionally have to remind myself to look up to balconies and the like.

The Resident Evil games will cure that of you. :) Lickers crawl all over the walls and ceiling.
