How many of you will admit to buying ammo when you don't have a gun it fits?

I encountered some 7.35 Italian ammo - about 600 rounds for 18 bucks. Nice clean stuff, boxes in great shape. Corrosive of course, but I could deal with it. I figured I'd get some old beat up milsurp and have a good cache setup that I wouldn't worry about.

Next gun club meeting one of the men I asked had a 7.35 Carcano - $50.
I didn't quite injure myself getting the cash out, but it was close!

But there was a problem - - the old beat up milsurp POS Carcano turned out to be a really nice folding bayonet M38 Moschetto per Cavalleria made by Beretta in 1939. :what: :what:

Well I may have lost a cache gun, but I gained a nice shooter!
So far all of the 7.35 has been sure fire, no hang fires, just BANG! :) :)

My dad does this...his gun cabinet is over here now since he moved out of town.
I find all kinds of ammo in it that none of his guns can shoot (His are .22s, and a .270.).
I've found several 7mm-08s, and oddly, I found a spent 30-06 brass in the hallway...long ways from the cabinet.
Uncle bought a small 5 pouch of .17s...cause they're neat.
I own only a .22 LR, yet I have 5.56, 9mm, .45s and even a few shotgun shells and .50 BMGs in my desk...hehe.
I love bullets.

A similar thing one of my friend's does is to pick up the ammo that the cops drop on the range. Once he has a full mag, he gets a gun to fit it... :D

Me. I have 9mm, 30'06, .223, 12ga, and .22 ammo for guns that I don't personally own. However, all the ammo is used when I take out my father's guns.

Heck, I even bought a bunch of magazines one time for a gun I didn't have and didn't think I ever would have. But at $1.00 each, I just couldn't pass them up, all new GI and most in the original wrap. So I didn't have an M14, so what?

Once. I had just bought a Swede, knowing that Sportsmansguide had commercial FNM and surplus ammo for it. Got the gun, went to order the ammo, out of everything.

Few months later, I see that they had 8x56R back in stock, so I bought a case of that, then went down to Dunhams and bought the gun to match. Wasn't going to get screwed over again.

Ya I have a box of .380's. I got it cause a friend has a Bersa .380 I was gonna shoot. But thats been 2-3 years ago and I still haven't got around to it.

Oh I almost forgot. I got like 5 boxes of .32 and 30-06 rifle ammo that was given to me by the wife of a friend after he passed away. She also gave me a few hundred rounds of .38 Spl and 7,000 rounds of .22 lr. All of it was from the 1960's.

I have not done that yet, however I still have boxes of ammo for guns that I have sold. Who knows?

I will admit that if I ever find a box of .204 bullets on the shelf at Sportsmans that I will probably snap them up. :D

I bought .308 a year before I had the rifle to shoot it out of.

I bought a .44 mag die set at a gun show for 10 bucks. I didn't have anything to shoot .44 out of, so, soon after I had a used 7-1/2" Ruger Super Blackhawk, 500 Star FMJ's and some extra W296 powder.

The dies turned out to be crappy, so I spent another 35 bucks on a Lee set.

Lately, I've wanted one of those Dirty Harry M29's, and a Marlin lever in .44.

Well, if I had firearm in line to buy but had not as yet I may buy some. Or perhaps I would buy some for a family member/friend...

I’m with Jim Keenan on this one; not just ammo but I’ve bought magazines for guns I didn’t have yet (or ever). It’s a California thing; one of these days I’ll get a Beretta or a Glock 21 or a ParaOrd P13. And then I’ll be set for mags. Same thing I did when I was planning on an M1A.

As for ammo I picked up a couple 100 or so rounds of Fabrique Nationál ‘60s vintage 30-06 about the same time I picked up a bandolier of 30-06 AP in the N-blocs. Eventually I’ll pick up a Garand… some day.

I bought 250 rounds of Sellier & Bellot 7.62x25mm Tokarev, before I bought the gun. I bought it three days later, but for three days, I had 5 boxes of ammo sitting on my desk and nothing larger than a .22 in the house!

a 100 rounds or so of 7.5 Swiss GP-11 and some 45Colt. Maybe a few rounds of 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R.

But I DO plan on getting either a K31 or another 1911 to use the 7.5. :D

My dad gave me a box of .45ACP several years ago, although I've not had anything in that caliber for decades. I found it back in December just in time to buy myself a P220.

Somewhere in the deep bowels of the safe I know I have an ancient box of Remington .32 Short LRN's. I don't know if anyone in the family has anything chambered in it. My mom does have a nice minty Smith in .32 Long, though.

I acquired a quantity of 7.65 Argy awhile back and gave it to my smith that afternoon. I've found it betters my bargaining position to do stuff like that :D

Regards,
Rabbit.

Yep

I've got 100 rds of 9mm in my room, and 2 holsters on order for a Glock 26 that I haven't bought yet. I figure, why buy a gun that you can't load and can't carry? I've decided that I'll buy the gun when my holster comes in, and with the Bass Pro putting the UMC 9mm FMJ on sale for $4.88/50rds starting on the 17th of this month, I'll be ready to rock.

Only bought ammo one time for a caliber I didn't own. The rifle I wanted was in an on-line auction and I was so positive I'd get it for what I wanted to pay I ordered a case of ammo a week before the auction ended.

My intuition was correct and turned out to be the best rifle purchase I've made yet! I was the only bidder and saved $400 :D I'm positive that will never happen again though.

Buy Ammo No gun that uses it

Might do it this weekend. I am going to two gun shows this weekend here in Colorado
Looking to buy a 44 mag so if I see the 44 mag ammo and not the gun I will buy it if the price is right. Sooner or later i will find the gun i want and use the ammo. Looking for a SW Model 629.
