How many rounds through an autoloader before you are willing to trust your life to it?

I shot 600+ rounds...3 weeks...NO problems whatsoever....began to carry.

I'd say 1000 or so (of the same exact ammo type of course)

200 rounds of carry ammo and 200-300 rounds other/practice ammo (all trouble free).

It was stupid and I was taking a chance, but I started carrying my Glock 22 before I ever fired a single round through it. I had no idea whether it would actually shoot or not. I carried it for about three days before I was able to get to the range with it. My first range trip I put about 500 rounds of various types and brands of ammo through it without a single hiccup. My second trip to the range was about 300 rounds of my chosen carry ammo.

Now, I wouldn't normally recommend doing it this way, but at the time it was my ONLY handgun. I decided that carrying an unproven gun was still better than not carrying anything at all.

I have since fired several thousand rounds through it without a single problem.

do a search (or just look back a couple weeks), this was an exact thread about two weeks ago.

but my own advice is go for about 500-1000 target (cheap) loads to get all the pieces working smooth and then clean and fire 200 rounds of carry ammo with all the magazines you are going to carry. most feed problems with autoloaders can be traced to magazines. make sure all of yours work.

Sorry. I visit a few times a week and I normally see all the thread and I didn't see it. Must have missed it. Sorry again.

300-400 rounds of generic ammo
followed by 100 rounds of my
carry load.If it's a older
design like a hi power or 1911
i kick it up to 500 rounds of
practice ammo and 200 rounds
of the carry load.

I usually put the first 1000 rounds through my new guns pretty quickly (usuallly in the first couple weeks) just because I want to learn how to shoot it properly & get a better feel for its reliability. Now to answer your question, I would think you'd know pretty soon after initially shooting it whether or not it is reliable so, I'd think w/in 600 rounds easy.
