How much *DID* Walking Dead contribute to Pythons collectors premium?

Was it before or after 2011 that you started hearing alot about the Colt Python?

I saw "Rick" push the Python's barrel into the ground as he was getting up from a seated position. Ever since then I've been on the zombies' side.

I must admit, the post was just to stir the pot. Sorry, too much coffee this morning.

Stir the forum, stir the coffee... anyone can get them mixed up. :) They both need it sometimes. I believe in another thread I was determined to be a Colt hater. I tried not to bring it here but you tempted me too much so I had to hate on them just a little. :D

I still think The Walking Dead has an impact on the popularity and interest in the Python as I tried to show in my earlier post about the google search queries. The fact that prices also increased over that same time seems to indicate that demand was greater than supply to some extent. How much of that was TWD driven is really hard to determine but it had to have some effect I would think.

Actually it was S&W M29s there Homerboy, and technically it was a S&W 6" M57 that was used in the first Dirty Harry movie because the prop folks couldn't find a 6" M29 at the time of filming, the only M29s available were the 4" "Mountain Gun".

I know. I meant to type in 29. Same thing though. The 29 wasn’t a big seller until Dirty Harry and then they couldn’t keep up with demand. Guys waited months or more and paid above MSRP. Then used 29’s started showing up in gun shops, with an opened box of .44 mag ammo with six rounds missing! Guess Dirty Harry made actually firing a .44 Mag look easier than it was!

As a member of that 18.5% I can assure you I am not sore I don't own a Python. If I suddenly had a Python I would promptly sell it and buy three nice S&W revolvers for the money. :D

As would I.

I see it mentioned a lot about the Colt Python and the Walking Dead. I know the main character , Rick Grimes carries a Python (yes I've watched the first season) and not to make this topic stray too far from guns, how much did the show affect the Pythons price in actuality?

The Python was Colts flagship product, and finest production/semi-production revolver that money could buy. Also a gem and icon of the 20th century. Most modern revolvers copy the Pythons full underlug design that the Python set forth. When a business decision as discontinuing these was made, it was only a matter of time that the price would soar through the roof.

I admit, I never much noticed the Pythons desirability until the following years after the show in question was made. But to say it was entirely the shows fault doesn't add up. Smith & Wesson doesn't make their Model 27 revolver the same way they used to, and original Model 27s also demand a premium.

Was it just the gun ban scare of 2012 overall that gave certain guns a huge price increase? I know AR-15 prices of same time period rose through the roof as well, but after a few years went way down. But the Python , not being made (the same way it was) anymore the prices would only continue to increase.
Being wielded by such a poncy, vacillating putz should do nothing for, and in fact harm, the reputation of that fine pistol!

Corrraaaaaalllllll!!!!!!!

I suspect the show helped a lot with name recognition in the general public's eyes. It is kind of the way most people know Montblanc and Rolex even if they don't own a fountain pen or watch. I imagine a few people bought one or bid on one partly because it came on their radar on the show.

There is one with a four inch barrel used but looking very very good on sale on gunbroker right now for.........$2,500 .....with some time left to bid.

I am not the seller or related in any way. I just looked it up after reading this thread. Don't know if that is higher than one would have gone last year or so or not.

Ya from what I've seen from the show the zombies are kinda decade unless they turned recently. If a guy can poke a stick through there skull a 22lr will be fine. 22lr maybe the last ammo left on the shelves.

Anyone impressionable enough to have bought a Python because of a stupid TV show has probably traded it for a few rolls of toilet paper by now.

Please have them contact me. I've made the offer in a couple of places already. I have toilet paper, and will trade for a Colt Python. 4" barrel only. Blue, nickel, or stainless are all acceptable.

I have a friend that collects action figures and he was selling some $10 action figures for the walking dead for over $200 at the height of the show. I feel certain it had some effect on python prices. What was the growth curve of pythons prior to the show and after? I would bet a few bucks that it accelerated after the show became popular, though I have no idea by how much.
