I have the oppourtunity to buy a 1911 Rock Island Armory frame, and was told that in order to make a complete gun, i would need a slide, barrel and slide stop. Would it be worth picking up? Also how much would a decent quality of each of these items cost? Could i choose to make it in 9mm or .38 Super if i wanted to, or would that be dependent on other factors? Also would this be something that a complete novice could do, or would i be better off having a gunsmith do it, or just plain buying a new gun? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Is this a bare frame, or does it have all the other parts installed (trigger, sear, disconnecter, hammer, ejector, mainspring housing, magazine release, etc.)?

What's the price?

At todays prices, you can buy a complete working gun cheaper then you can buy the parts & tools to build one.

.45 frames don't always work so hot for .38 Super & 9mm because of the placement & size of the .45 ACP feed ramp cut.

Mike:

You need to ask him the caliber. The set up for a .45 ACP may not function properly with a .38 Super.
