I have a Rock Island Armory 1911-A1 CS that I can't get the slide off of. I remove the slide stop and the slide will not slide off of the front of the gun. I've never experienced anything like it and I was hoping that someone had seen this before and had a fix. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Joe.

Is this your first experience with a 1911 style firearm? There are a ton of YouTube videos and blogs about how to field strip a 1911. You need to remove the bushing before you take out the slide stop. With the bushing and slide stop removed, the slide should come right off.

Full length guide rod? If so there should be a hole drilled through it about half way down the rod. Pull the slide back and insert a bent paper clip (if you don't have the supplied take down tool) to capture the recoil spring. The slide should come off easily then. Failure to do this will often let the guide rod head flip the barrel link backwards which can jam the slide/barrel assembly if the tolerance stack is just right.

Thank you all very much for your responses, I got if figured out. I simply skipped the first two steps in Armscors instructions (Below) and was able to remove it with no problem. I had searched the internet pretty extensively including YouTube where I saw several people remove the slide exactly as described in the instructions but when I would try it wouldn’t slide off. BBBBill had nailed it. Things like this demonstrate how valuable experience is. Thanks again gentlemen, Joe.

1. Moving the slide back, align disassembly notch with back of
slide stop. Remove slide stop.

2. Remove complete upper assembly from frame.

3. Press the guide rod forward, until the small hole on the rod is
exposed on the front of the gun. Using a small Allen wrench or
paper clip with L-shaped bend to keep the spring depressed,
you are allowed to remove the rod, spring, and reverse plug.
Push the recoil spring assembly containing the guide rod, spring,
and reverse plug towards the back of the slide to remove.

4. Remove the firing pin by depressing firing pin and pushing
downward on firing pin stop. Then you can remove the firing pin
and spring.
