How much would it cost me to get a sling and sling mounts on my rifle? I'm looking for a basic military style green sling. I'm just not comfortable drilling into my stock myself to put mounts and swivels on it.
Just have a gunsmith dill the stock, it'll cost about $20. If you want to do it right, you need a jig to align the drill.
You can get a M1 canvas sling for about $5 from a gunshow, new surplus ones are about $10. The downside is that they are noisy because of the metal clip, but it is possible to attach them to the rear swivel without the clip.

thats a good guide, but it says you have to bolt the front mount and remove the barrel for this. Is this necessary? Anybody else have experience with doing this on your own?
The front swivel is usually held in by a nut of some sort since there isn't enough wood for the screw to grab. Removing the barreled action is no big deal, remove the guard/action screws and carefully lift the receiver/barrel out of the stock.
You'd rather pay to have someone else mess it up? I'm pretty leery of the average "gunsmith". If you have a 'smith you trust, that's another thing, but installing the studs is about as diy as it gets.
