This my problem: I can't get the sling swivel to unscrew from the stock handguard. No matter how many times I turn the screw to unscrew it, a nut holds the sling swivel and turns with it to prevent it from unscrewing. I'm out of ideas an dwant to mount my Harris bipod to the stock via sling swivel. Do any of you know either a) how to remove said sling swivel or b) where I can find another factory style handguard/forend? Thanks, any advice appreciated

I just hooked the Rock Mount (Harris knockoff) on the stock Saiga sling post.

Look under the front of the receiver, just in front of the mag well, there is a screw. Remove that, and the handguard will slide forward and off.
Then you can look inside to see what is turning. The stock slign mount is what holds the forward handguard retainer, so you have to keep or modify it.

I have a Harris bipod mounted on my Saiga but am not using the front sling swivel as the Harris won't fit it. I'm using a Harris clamp-on adaptor, have clamped to the barrel right in front of the gas block and it works great, is rock solid!

I had to shorten the pins that go into the swivel, and open the window up a bit to allow it to clamp on the fatter Saiga swivel, but it is on there now and doesn't move a bit!

i know a guy who did this, by adding a short rail piece to the underside of his forearm, then bolted, washered, and loctited it in place. then attached the bipod.

he did the same thing on the side, to attach a light or laser.

"Tex - is that a modified Saiga or a PSL?

Regardless, it's a looker..."

It is a 22" 308 Saiga.. thanks!:)

Tex,

Do you have a link to the furniture you put on your Saiga? That is one nice looking rifle. Thanks

Jeff

Not really. it is a mix-match and customized mess. Upper handguard is a standard Romy length tube and wood, lower is a shortened and modified PSL from K-var, stock is a $10 wood from Centerfiresystems.

Be forewarned, it is a time consuming project to get the lower to attach to the stock Saiga mounts.

A lot of people don't like putting bipods on the barrel. Affects harmonics.

The swivel on the Saiga is fatter than normal. If you disassemble the bipod, and make the square window a little wider, then the ears can open up enough to go on it, and it all tightens down fine.
