How frequently do you apply grease or oil to your single stage press when you are reloading? Thank you.

i clean and lube it whenever it starts to feel like it needs it. usually happens about every 3 months or so.

usually, when i decap a bunch (roughly 300-500) of shells i pull the press from the bench and clean the ram and re-lube it. i have the ram coated with lyman moly bullet lube, and add a couple of drops of mobil 1 w/ stp mixed in. the results is a SUPER SMOOTH opperating press. the only problem with the stp is it sucks the dirt to the ram. but it is easy enough to clean. just one of those things.

Lets see...

Both XL650's, 550B, and T7 get there monthly to 6 weeks clean and lube, give or take.

Lee Classic cast maybe every 3 - 6 months

Lee Challenger (without the breeck locks)in my family room ??? I can't remember

RCBS Rocker - I need to check on that - It's retired and in storage.

Lee Hand press - I think I used it a couple of times a couple of years back and haven't seen it since. I guess it could use some attention

Elbow Grease Is Best

I think I said this on another string - but I started using 30 wt motor oil after seeing that Dillon recommended it (exclusively) for my 550B. I have started using it on my Rockchucker & ancient and still excellent Herter's U3. I think as long as you clean and oil them with use and after extended non-use it's not too important what you use, Dillon notwithstanding.

When my presses start to drag any I pull the ram and clean with PB Blaster and wipe ram and press clean. Next reassemble and lube with a mixture of PB Blaster, Lucas Oil, and Marvel mystery Oil mixed in thirds, applied SPARINGLY. Slick as greased lightning.:D Then a couple drops of SWG Superlube after working it a few times.

I have a Lee challenger. It hasn't even occurred to me to lube it. Iv'e loaded thousands of rounds. It works nice and smooth.
