Just curious, I grew up with an anti mother and a neutral father. First gun I shot was a 12 gauge (ow!). I was 11. Then at camp the next year they had a .22 range setup for us to shoot.

Despite my grandparents owning guns, both of my parents are fairly anti, so I had to discover shooting on my own, which happened in high school.

13, and I had to save up my whole 12 year old year to buy my first firearm which I still have and plan to never leet out of my possesion untill I pass it on to someone in my will.

Somewhere around 10 or so.

A 12 gauge with a deer slug. I totally obliterated that Coke can! :)

I know I shot a single shot 22 when I was four. I have confirmed this with my dad. I remember as if it happened this afternoon. It was one of the last times I had with my grandfather and I treasure it greatly.

little younger than seven... i remember seeing dad cut off the shot load from the .410 shells so we could shoot off blanks, we used to live in a little Maryland town right along main street so i guess a full shot load is a no no anyhow lol

3 years of age with a handgun, age 4 rifle, age 5 shotgun.

I was born with a .22 revolver in my dresser draw crib along with other items a Southern Boy needs.

My lessons started at 3 years of age with my revolver , and this means lessons, not "I fired my first shot".

I was probably 10 or so. My dad was an FBI agent, so we grew up shooting with him. Also did a little bit in Boy Scouts.

I was 8, right after I got my Orange Card (hunter's safety certificate). The first firearm I ever shot was a 12 guage break action; I should have held on to the forestock a bit tighter.... Anyway, for a while there I was actually afraid to shoot, though I loved cleaning them. There was a gap of about 3 years, the first non-shotgun I shot was a competition 1911. First non-.22 rifle was an M1 Garand.

I was 11 or twelve. 22's at camp, then trap at camp with a 20 guage when I hit 13. I was so jealous when the camp owner took the older boys to go shooting his revolvers, and I was too young. He took out a bear with his 44 magnum when it came into the camp a while back (way before I went there), and hung it's head up in the cafeteria. One of the best camps in the country, flew 2000 miles to go there.

First time I ever shot was when i was around seven or eight. Unfortunetly, that was the one and only time. Fast forward about eight years and I started shooting again with a friend on the weekends. And that basically started an uncontrollable urge to start buying.

when you first started shooting
What does that mean, exactly?...
Are you asking when we first ever shot a gun? Or, When we first shot a gun and new that we would have a chance to do it again soon?

Ok, I FIRST shot a gun when I was maybe 17, then again at 23-ish, then again at 28. I would not say that I "started shooting" at any of those times, because I had no idea when or if I would ever shoot again. I would say that I started shooting when I bought my first gun at 29. My parents and brother are (or, "were") very indifferent regarding guns. They all had no interest at all until I started talking about firearms. Now, it seems they have all started to understand what I am talking about, and everyone wants a gun now :)

Early Days

It helped having my father in the Army. I was given my first airgun at 6, and he snuck me onto the range when ever he could until I could hold a BREN LMG into my shoulder aged 8yrs old.
I was brusied black and blue on my neck and shoulder. My dad got roasted by my mum, and I still love him to bits for his passion for shooting which I still have today!
The only problem I've got now is living in the UK. I think that our Draconian gun laws suck BIG TIME!
Anyone know how I can escape to the land of the free?

I don't know when I got a BB gun, but I guess it was six or eight. My dad didn't hunt or shoot, but my mother came from a family of hunters so it was no big deal. I just didn't have much interest in it. About 12-13-14 or so I got interested enough to ask for a shotgun for Christmas and got it. I'm sure I had shot a gun before then, but it was like riding a bike. Most all kids did some shooting.

I remember a couple of .410's I shot, and my buddy and I used to sneak his dad's 22 S/A revolver (It may have been a Ruger, but I don't know for sure) out and shoot it once in a while. We had to figure out how to work it, but we managed. It won't like them guns the cowboys on TV used. It ran out of bullets.

BB gun at 6 or 7, at 12 or so I bought my first .22, a Springfield. I can't remember the model, but you had to pull the rear of the bolt back to cock it. Seems like I paid $35.00 for it.

the first time I really remember I was in the 4th (1974ish)grade, I was in school we had a very active 4-H club they put on a shooting / safety course with live fire in the gym. would like to see something like that happen today, I still have my award that I won
