I just picked up pretty cheap a real nice mosin-nagant. This is a rifle not the carbine,
The markings are identical to the Tula marking from a Dragoon rifle, as shown on Mosin-nagant net. Except the year is 1926 http://www.mosin-nagant.net/Russian-Proofs1.html
However this rifle has the octagon reciever. Which I seem to recall from TFL was fairly rare,(searches showed me nothing)

Just curious, Thanks Again.

Oleg, I didn't see any other marks listed as proof marks, the reciever does have a hammer stamped on the top flat section, is the only other significant mark, on the barrel is a circle dot, a square n?, and a circle K
The reciever serial numer matches the barrel serial number, but that probrably means nothing.

Thanks again

A Finn should have an SA(Finnish Army ordanance mark) on it somewhere, unless it was a Sk.Y(Civil Guard), but even those were claimed by the army and marked when the Civil Guard was disbanded so a Sk.Y getting away without it would be pretty rare.

It sounds Russian. Is the front sight a post with a cover over it?

DMK, Yes it has the hooded front sight, post with a circle cover around it.

No I can't find any of those finish marks on it.

As always I am indebted to you fine gentlemen.

Go to the suggested pages, they are a treasure trove of Mosin info. The hex receiver is not rare, before the model 91/30 with round receivers came out in the early 1930s, all receivers were hex and in fact some of the early 91/30s had hex receivers, they didn't waste a perfectly good receiver. If your gun has the sights and furniture of a 91/30 it maybe an early one.

I think Ron in PA is right. It's likely a Russian 91/30 with a hex receiver. If you pull the action from the stock, their might be a date under the rear tang (where the screw is) indicating when the reciever was originally built .

While maybe not considered actually rare. The hex receiver Mosins are more desirable to collectors, probably slightly stronger and will demand a higher price.

Well it is not an older reciever the date on the tang is 26, matching the 1926 on the barrel, also shows a hammer, marking it as Tula, same as the barrel, Well i'm habving fun looking this up, thanks still.

It sounds to me like a standard M91. All M91s have octagonal receivers and the pre 1936 M91/30s also have octagonal receivers. You might have a dragoon M91/30 which would be more valuable. What is the length of the barrel?
