I've read of a number of problems people have had with their Kahr pistols. I'm considering adding a P9 or P40 to my stable. Is this craziness, or should I add a pint-sized Kahr P9 or P40?
How reliable are Kahr P9 or P40?

I have had some trouble with my P9.
I have found two problems:
#1. I am 6'4" and have long fingers to match. I find that unless concentrate on holding the pistol in a specific way, I have about a 3% chance after each shot is fired of one of my fingers hitting the magazine release during recoil to drop the magazine. It is depressing when shooting to find an empty pistol and a half loaded magazine on the ground or halfway fallen out of the pistol.
#2. I don't like the magazine design. If the spare magazine is stored loose the top cartridge tends to work it's way out. This could be solved by always carrying the spare magazine in a hard leather mag pouch, but that adds bulk. I went mountain biking with the P9 once and when I finished the ride, I found an empty spare mag and 7 loose 9mm rounds in my bike pouch.
I have not experienced either of these problems with any other pistol.
This is why I prefer the Makarov to the Kahr. I love that nice European mag release which works properly as well as a spare magazine that does not unload itself.

I had a P9. I sold it because I like the MK9 better. The only problem I found was the trigger pin would "walk". Otherwise, it was a good shooter.
I`m left handed so I have no problem hitting either the mag release or the slide stop. The problem with the top round popping out of the mag happens even if it`s in a pouch. I just check it every time I carry it.

Problems with the Kahr pistols have been primarily restricted to the "P" series only. "K" models are cream of the crop, while the MK's have had an occasional tolerance related hiccup that was easily remedied.
I'd suggest going over the the dearly departed but never forgotten TFL and search for a few combinations of words like "Kahr Problems" or "Kahr P40", etc... There was more information on Polymer Kahr problems than you could read in a day.
I had a P9 that couldn't be counted on to reliably discharge the rounds in it, so Kahr traded for a new P40 that worked flawlessly for 500+ rounds, then started having the same (but less) "click-no-bang" issue, so I sent it back to Kahr for a K40. Although I sold the K40 immediately upon receipt, it hasn't had any problems at all that I know of from it's current owner.
MY opinion, if I were to buy another Kahr for CCW, especially IWB, I would get the all-steel K model so I could be 100% sure of it's reliability when I need it. Good belt + good holster = no weight issues.
