I'm depending on you guys to guide me right. :)

Here's the situation.
I was going to buy a couple of guns now, when I get my bonus, and then maybe 2 or so a year as usual (well...I just started a year ago...but still).

Anyhow, this kind of changed now, because of lots of other bills we are being hit with and other such stuff. So I think I will buy one now, or maybe 2 now if the total is around 500 or less. Otherwise it'll probably be a while before I can buy another gun for myself.

another bit of info, I just received my C&R.
Other guns I have:
M&P9
Smith 36
converted Saiga

So here are my options...help me align them in an order to buy them in:

-My wife wants a Sig P6. This will be her first handgun. $300 at the local store. I already have another 9mm, so ammo commonality.

CZ-82. C&R. cheap: <$200. 9mm Makarov (which local gun store carries).

RIA 1911 (probably commander/midsize). Not very expensive for a 1911, but otherwise the most expensive of this bunch. .45 ammo is costly. Would be nice for winter carry.

CZ40b -- .40 cal. ammo is expensive. One at the gun store is in good shape, I think price is $350. I'm not really too excited about .40s&w... but would like to own a cz.

9mm carbine
. Hi point is $215. local gun store has a kel-tec for $250!! would be a fun plinker.

No rifles are on here because I don't really get the opportunity to shoot the one rifle I have very much. :(

So what do you guys think? let me know your thoughts.

I say get the CZ-82.

The Rock Island, as you say, is the more spendy of the bunch.

The 40B is a caliber turn-off for you.

Both use more expense ammo.

The Kel-Tec is a possibility, but still more expensive than the 82.

I think the Hi-point will be more trouble in the long run than it's worth.

And finally, you have a C&R.

I think this decision makes itself: CZ-82. :)

Get your wife the gun she wants. It's nice to have company at the range and have her interested in shooting too.
If she is happy, you'll be happy.

Buy your wife the Sig, now! If she gets into shooting even half as much as you then you won't have to worry about buying other guns later on.

Other than that you should pay off your debts now instead of buying more guns. Money problems lead to more marriage problems than anything else, trust me I know.

Oh yeah, I know that's true for sure. that's why I'm cutting back, the WHOLE bonus was going to add to my collection! hahaha

I think I'll wait on the 1911 (they'll always be around).
She wants the P6, so that'll be #1 (I can always shoot it too, until she puts the pink wood grips on there that she wants).
Then maybe I can get the cz82 if I have enough extra cash left over after the other bills. hmm... that'd be nice. :D

I think she's only been shooting with me once, but didn't really like it much because my gun is too "fat" (full size m&p 9mm). the single stack is definitely where it's at for her. and she doesn't like revolvers. It's taken me a WHILE to find anything that she thinks is "cute" that isn't well over $700 (mainly Kimbers).
And she already wants the pink grips i mentioned, and to plate the slide nickel...but that'll have to wait, lol.

She can't really shoot now much anyway though, being she's 6 months pregnant!

Given the escalating costs of ammo, perhaps you should consider a .22 handgun. Then you could shoot often without breaking the bank. With a baby in the immediate future, there might not be muct money that can be used on shooting. Children are a real expensive hobby.

I'm glad you decided to get your wife the gun she wants. You are lucky your wife like to shoot and even luckier your wife will be able to protect herself.

Don't be so fast on wanting to build a gun collection. First buy what you need but only after the bills are paid. Also remember, when you buy a lot of cheap guns you own a lot of cheap guns. Sometimes it's better to hold off and buy yourself a nice gun instead.

Brief side note: Lots of folks recommending buying the wife the P6. But the way I read the OP, he was already commited to buying his wife the P6 and was asking about a secondary purchase.

Was I the only one who read it that way?

you are correct, sir.
But only if i can keep total value around or less than $500. :)

a .22 handgun is a thought that crossed my mind. ALthough not too accurate, we do already have an Intratec Tec-22 that is fun to plink with.

Oh, and I don't want cheap guns...but I LOVE "great value" guns :D

PS. this is baby #2! (Boy!)

Congrats on the new addition to your family.

I still think all the signs point to the CZ-82. You have a C&R, it's within your price point, it's not caliber-adverse for you (not that you mention anyway). Of the list it's the closest match to your requirements.

And it's cool. ;)

Buy your wife the P6.
Do not shoot it, do not carry it, do not mess with it, it is HER gun!
(Well, you should offer to clean it for her, might save you some diaper changes.)

Do not let the rest of the money burn a hole in your pocket. Sock it away until you see something you really, really, like, no doubt about it, no need to ask strangers on the internet about.

well, wrench in the works a little bit. Went to buy P6 from the gun store, and they'd just sold the last one 2 hours before i got there!!!
:(

so we're going to wait a few months before they get some more in (it's cheaper than ordering through j&g or aim or any of those).

So ~$200 for a CZ82
or ~$400 for a 1911.

I think I'll get the CZ (always wanted one) and then just save up in my "gun savings" like usual for the 1911. and keep the $300 set aside for a P6 so I can still get that whenever they get them in.

In the meantime I'll have a CZ, and then whenever I have it built up I can get a 1911. I certainly don't want to stretch myself thin by any means.

sometimes strangers on the internet have good inputs :)

J&G has a ton of them still (as of Sept. 2nd). Around 60. The ones I saw were in good shape so I don't really recommend paying the grade premium. Of course, YMMV.

See this...

It's a report I posted a while ago.

I think you could still get one from J&G under $300. I paid $606 for two with extra factory mags. Shipping and FFL fees will get it close, but it might still be under if you're frugal.

hmmm.....Now I'm wondering if I should just get TWO P6s.....

hahaha. jk. well...I wouldn't be, but then I wouldn't be able to get the CZ.

you're my new hero by the way :p
