I have had a Colt Walker repro flask for about 20 years and never used it because I preferred to use my smaller Colt Army flask with a 40 grain spout. Is the Walker spring loaded spout adjustable? Should the "stopper" be flush at the end of the spout? How many grains does the Walker spout throw?
Thanks

Okay; I got curious and found it. The Walker Flask is adjustable from 30 to 50 grains. 40 grains is supposedly a good setting. There is a small screw on the side of the nozzle portion of the flask. Loosen this and the spout extends in 5 grains increments up to its full charge level.
:) Enjoy.

There are two adjustments on the Walker flask. The collar on the spout can be moved in 5gr increments. There is a threaded rod inside the flask, part of the spout that allow fine adjustment of up to 5gr. A Walker flask has a compartment for caps or six round balls.

Speaking of flasks, does anyone have pic's of how the originals had slings or straps attached? I have flasks with D rings for attaching a sling and I have others that do not have the D rings.

From a letter from Samuel Walker to Colt dated Feb. 19, 1847:
"I prefer [the flask] plain & substantial suited for a narrow strap say 3/4 inch in width and of very strong

(copy of Walker's drawing) hinges..."

In this picture of an original flask,

it appears that the attachments are triangular in shape, and this is how my repro flask is set up. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pic AW. I have a Italian repro that has the triangular hinges. Very close to the one pictured, lacking in detail. I assume it was normal for the flask to hang with the spout down from looking at the location of the hinges.
Do you have a picture of the original spout?

Since we are on the topic of flasks I feel silly starting a new thread. Does anyone know where I can get some spare screws that secure the lid to the flask? You know, the little bastards that you always drop when you are refilling your flask:eek:. I could use a few.

I have a Colt Blackpowder "Signature Series" version of this flask. They put the hanging rings farther up the flask body, so the flask would hang upright - a more intelligent position, IMHO. I found tonight that, besides being the proper charger for my dragoon replica, it's also great for charging the plastic cases I have for my Pietta Smith Carbine replica - same setting as for the dragoon (35 grains FFFg)!

BTW, it's really easy to fill the flask, without removing the whole top, just by unscrewing the entire spout/valve assembly. Leaves about a 1/2"-9/16" or so diameter hole that is easy to pour powder into.

I tried that, but made a mess of things. Then I bought a Funnel that screws into that hole. Makes it much better on old eyes like mine.
