how to assemble a delta ring?

putting an AR upper together. been following this http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=11004/learn/ with great success. however i'm confused on how to put the delta ring together as he just skimps right over it.

1. what does he mean until the spring fits in the cut?
2. do you also assemble the barrel nut in with it first or do you do it while it's on the barrel?

also my setup

spikes stripped lower
DD LPK
magpul stock
stripped BCM upper with bushmaster parts
DD Barrel w FSB
individually handguard and gas tube parts since the DD assembly didn't include those.

The notch in the snap ring has to line up with the notch in the weld spring. Here's a link that shows some pics:

I thought by cut in the barrel nut there was some groove it had to go into. I forgot about the gas tube. so basically you just put the spring into the slip ring, then the retaining ring in afterwards, making sure the gas tube port is fully aligned?

The D-ring assembly is assembled before the barrel nut goes onto the rifle. The D-ring, spring and clip go on in that order. Then assemble the barrel to the rifle, and line up the hole in the D-ring and gap in the spring with the hole in the upper receiver. Too easy!

Also remember, grease the upper receiver threads, and use a torque wrench. Torque the barrel nut to 30 ft-lbs and remove, twice. Then tighten to 30 ft-lbs and if you don't have a scallop lined up with the upper receiver keep going until you do. Do not exceed 80 ft-lbs.
