before applying various solvents to your lens, check with the manufacturer. all lens coatings are not the same and some might be best for one scope and a really poor choice for another
I believe the brush or blower first. Next DO NOT put ant chemicals on your scope. You will ruin the coatings. The best way to clean high dollar optics is, with a very soft cotton cloth and distilled water. Dampen cloth and wipe lenses and dry. Do not polish no more than needed. This came from Leupold themselves
Compressed air, then Zeiss wipes for me.I only clean when it's really needed. The hardest thing on lenses is cleaning them.I'm also going to take Sidewinder72's advice and try the distilled water rather than the wipes.I have over a dozen Leupolds and have covers for most of them. They're the best way to clean a scope.Meaning you don't have to nearly as much.I just bought a tiny DeWalt air compressor for my gun room, and have found it to be one of those things I didn't have, but now that I have one,I don't know how I got along without it.I invested less than 300 bucks, and am very pleased with it.
Have noticed gals final-polishing wine glasses behind the bar with coffee filters, and I wonder if this could also be used in the field to clean the lens on my scopes.

I just read my owners manual on my new leupold VX3 last night. It says after removing any loose particles with air or a soft brush, use a soft cloth with alcohol, pure water, or a quality glass cleaner.
