How to defend black rifles?

Any time someone tells me that semi-auto firearms with large capacity magazines are only for killing lots of people quickly, I ask them why we would furnish them to law enforcement officers. Why would we want our police to kill lots of people quickly?

To the main-stream media and much of the sheeple, the fact that tactical rifles look scary is enough. All we can do is point out their functionality; same as most common hunting rifles.

This has all happened before. When the crossbow was first introduced into Europe it was considered so evil that Pope Innocent II declared the crossbow "hateful to God and unfit for Christians." The second Lateran Council of churches decreed, "We prohibit under anathema that murderous art of crossbowmen and archers, which is hateful to God, to be employed against Christians and Catholics from now on." The Church of England also attempted to outlaw the crossbow. I am sure that someone, somewhere in Europe came home with one and a family member was shocked that he would own such an "evil weapon".

Good point and all. What I thought was funny is the POF rifles come in two variants: "tactical" and "hunting/sniper". The ONLY difference is that the T model has a full-length rail, and the H model has half- or quarter-length rails. Other than that, it's the exact same gun.

My anti coworker saw the tactical, thought it wasn't a good idea to buy (because she doesn't like guns and its expensive). She saw the hunting/sniper "YOU MEAN PEOPLE CAN BUY A SNIPER RIFLE?!?!?!"

I couldn't explain to her that it was the exact same one as the one she'd "okay"ed a few minutes ago...actually it might be considered less "dangerous" because it doesn't have full-length rails :p

Pleople most often see these rifles as a tool of war. There is a large idea that the bad guys carry AK's and the good guys AR's and both are used just to kill people, wich is not true. You could argue that they are safe till your blue in the face but when someone has an idea that they are bad you will have a hard time to change that view. Until people see that one weapon is no more dangerous than the other its the people who use these weapons in way that add to the negitive thinking that really hurt the view.

No offense but if you hold an opinion should you not already have good reasons for it?

I know I enjoy the heck out of shooting my rifles and, like most here, don't want to be told what I should or shouldn't have available to me.

I hate the sporting purpose argument. It is counter productive. And completely baseless.

There is no "sporting purpose" clause in the 2nd Amendment. It's purpose isn't sporting. The Founding Fathers weren't trying to protect your right to hunt.

Try telling your father that you believe every living creature on this earth has the right to defend itself to best of its ability, and these high-capacity semi-automatic rifles just happen to be the best technology we have for holding down the fort.

Try telling him to justify why you shouldn't have one. There isn't a single good reason. According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, in 2010, there were 540 people killed with clubs and other blunt objects. There were 358 people killed with rifles. That's all rifles, not just the semi-automatic ones with large magazines. Since AR-15s are more American than baseball or apple pie right now, and since baseball bats kill more people in this country than AR-15s, you'd literally be making this country safer if you banned baseball.

But basically, it isn't a matter of need. No one needs a car that can go twice as fast as any legal posted speed limit. No one needs a go-mug that holds a two gallons of Mountain Dew. And motor vehicles and sugary, high calorie sodas both kill more people in this country every year than AR-15s. There is no logical argument for why we shouldn't be able to own these things. Not crime, or necessity, nothing...

Mdauben, that Hello Kitty rifle is a blasphemy! The kitty in the decal is holding an AK...

My rifles are there for the same reason as my hammer and sockets sets;
In case I need them.
Others can gasp all they want, but they haven't seen a "scary" combat configured rifle until they've seen one in the hands of a badguy looter gangbanger.
