How to dispose of "junk ammo?"

Garbage can... they won't be anymore dangerous than anything else in the land fill. If its just a hand full of rounds, I don't think it is worth your time to recycle them. Now if you have a case or two... different story

Anyone can drop ammo off at my Agency for destruction. We get quite a bit every year. When we get it enough the bomb guys take it out and blow it up.
It is a quick and easy process.

I pull the bullets and save them if possible, toss them if not (or I keep cast lead ones for when I finally start casting).
Save the powder until you have about two pounds of it. Then take it out in the yard and light up the midnight sky!
Save the brass for recycling.

As a reloader I will deprime the cases, full length resize them, and then reload them. In these days of hard, tight ammo do not simply toss them. If you don't want them find a reloader.

I pull them apart and toss the powder in the grass. It makes great fertilizer. The bullets and brass get reused. If the primer is suspect, I'll deprime in my single stage with goggles and gloves.

---------------------------caveat------------------------------------

I toss small quantities of powder in the grass. It degrades very quickly. If you toss a pound of powder in your brown weeds and start a grass fire. Don't claim I told you it was safe.

No, no, no.

I pour the used motor oil out along the fence line to control weeds.

Just kidding, of course. My used motor oil goes back to O'Reilly's for recycling.

I'm glad you didn't take me seriously!
