so I tried the "pencil test" with my new CZ-52 (you stick a pencil down the bore and decock it, if the pencil moves it might ND if you try it on a live round).. the pencil moved.

how do you fix that?

I want to get the harrington products firing pin but it's not recommended if you have a bad decocker.

Yup, he's right. Decockers are best left alone. A decocker is one of those things that, when it fails, it fails in a spectacular way. Use your thumb to let the hammer down. Get the HD Harrington kit; you'll have a great pistol. It made a huge difference with mine.

Yes. The Harrington kit does permit condition one. W/my pistol, I can't get the hammer to go down while it's on safe. But yours, since the decocker is inop, may have a notch or something that has some wear, slop or some other issue. Something isn't engaging with your pistol. I don't know if the decocker feature affects the hammer release in general. Someone here should know for sure.

i'm not sure I fully get what you're saying. When my gun is on safe the hammer won't go down. However when you push up (to activate the decocker), the hammer falls as it should, however, whatever is supposed to prevent the firing pin from moving forward isn't entirely engaging because the firing pin is allowed to come forward with enough momentum to move a pencil. At the range it wasn't enough to light off my ammo, but personally don't like bumping the primer unless i'm trying to fire.

I'm curious about the fix, too...

I have a CZ-52 that fails the pencil test. The importer's not taking them back these days for retrofit.

"officially" you should be able to carry the CZ-52 in "condition one" with the Harrington kit installed. However since the gun will no longer even resemble "drop safe" with the Harrington kit I would strongly advise against having one in the chamber.

Look, it's a 50-something year old gun with a sort of odd design even if you don't take any wear n' tear into account. I surely do love my CZ-52 but mine is a range toy only, it's NOT the gun to have for EDC with a round up the snout.

Not all decockers on all guns are bad. One that is really good is on the old Smith & Wesson 39-2 9mm.

But some are really hard to trust and I wouldn't just like safeties.
