I get delayed every time and it's getting annoying. The sale has never been denied, just delayed. So, I have heard you can get a NICS PIN to keep this from happening, but I can't find a way to apply for one anywhere :banghead:

Any links or help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT::

oops didn't see the very similar thread that is posted.

I also finally found the number, it wasn't easy. (304) 625-2750

Does going through the VAF make sense? I typically get a delay, so I got an AZ CCW to bypass NICS. Then, I moved to IL where there is no NICS bypass.

It won't fix everything...

I got a BATFE UPIN but it didn't fix my problem. My state maintains several databases that are part of the "instant" check and the PIN from BATFE doesn't help there. Turns out there's a dummy (I'd like to call him something else but I'm TRYING to be High Road :fire:) with the same last name and date of birth who lives out near Roanoke who's been naughty. The computer kicks my application into the "eyes on" pile to be checked by a person which causes the delay. Even though I put my SSN and UPIN on the paperwork, it still gets kicked out so a live person can say "This is NOT the dummy in Roanoke" - several hour delay every time. :banghead:

As somebody who's been appealing a DENIAL for the past ~5 months (and looks like it'll be a couple more), I can just tell you - it could be worse. Be happy and don't stress about it.

Yeah, it's not horrible, just hoping I can fix it. Because around here, if there is a delay, they apparently don't call back. They only call back if you can't have the gun, and you have to wait 5 days. After 5 days and no call, you can go get it.

Actually, at Gander Mountain, if they don't call back within five-days, the corporate policy is not to release the firearm to the buyer....

You can print out form for UPIN on computor at ATFE.gov and mine only took about 6 weeks which included my having to get a disposition from Texas on a misdemenor trespass charge which had been dismissed but never removed. The FFL's complain because of a few extra minutes but I've never been delayed since.

Same thing for me. After "John Smith" my name is probably the second or third most popular male name. It takes me so long usually that I've gotten in the habbit of just filling out the paperwork and saying "I'll be back in couple days to pick it up."

Dude, I was confused when I saw the number you posted because that is a local number in my neighborhood! Then I remembered, Oh yeah that giant complex on the edge of town is the FBI Center. DUH.
