I just got a El Cheapo pellet gun that came with a scope and no iron sights. it is the break barrel type action. My question is how to get it sighted in? You can't look down the bore at a target and adjust the scope to be looking at the same place. I was at the local range yesterday blazing away with my .22 Hornet and .44 Mag at 25 yards when I tried the pellet gun it was not on the paper at 25 yards. If I try closer range the scope is out of focus. Any tips? Yes I know 25 yards is close for the Hornet and the .44 but all I was doing is getting them on the paper before I do the 100 yard thing next Saturday.

Seriously, this is not unusual, get a big piece of cardboard with a small dot for an aiming point. Get as close as you can and still be able to see the dot. Shoot and make corrections until you can back up and use a standard target of some sort.

Start out at about 10 yards shooting at a 3or4 foot square piece of cardboard and go from there.
The scope being mounted on the reciever, independant of the barrel is NOT the best set-up by any means.
My rifle is a Remington Summit, by no means "el cheapo" but with a similar set up and I find that I must check the zero often to mantain any accuracy at all.
You might try different brands of pellets and cleaning the rifle's bore about every 50 shots or so using Hoppe's #9 and a bronze/brass brush.

A scope on a pellet rifle that is out of focus under 25 yards is worthless. You need to either adjust it or throw it away and go to Wal-Mart and get one of their $20 red dots or air rifle scopes.
Also, as it sounds like this is a "springer", you need to only support the forend, not grasp or control it, as the springers need to free recoil to produce the best accuracy. Lay the forend on a sandbag with your hand between the forend and bag, then hold gently but firmly against your shoulder and squeeze off the round.....Pulling the forend down, holding the stock tight, seems to cause these things to shoot all over the place.
Thanks everyone I will give the huge chunk of cardboard method a try. It does focus closer than 25 yards perhaps as close as 10 feet. found this when I actually checked it. I have poor eyesight is the reason I have a scope on a pellet gun to start with. It is a springer. I have seen the if you hold it tight it shoots all over the pace with springer's before. This was a $200 gun on sale for $100 so it is not as cheapo as my other .177 cal which cost $30. the $30 gun holds a good 5 inch group at 10 yards day in and day out. I do have a good RWS .22 cal which shoots groups where all the holes touch out as far as I can see to shoot it, the RWS is a side cocker.
