My wife found this on on of the forums she visits regularly and apparently it really did happen. I told her my response might be a bit different ;)than "Hubby's."

Hubby was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. He opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked, "Is someone in your house?"

He said, "No." Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. He said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed . Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response Unit, and an ambulance showed up and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the policemen said, "I thought you said you shot them!"

Hubby said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

That was on one of the forums I frequent, and it was actually printed in the news paper. I will try and find the link sometime later today, unfortunately I have to go get ready for work.

I'm not so sure this story isn't apocryphal. If true Hubby should count himself lucky not to be arrested for making a false police report.

Well the people that move close to a gun range, claim their house to be shot and then show the responding LEO the bullets (still in casing) that struck their house dont get filed upon.
