How-to hand pick a K-31?

Buzz - you are way behind the curve on purchasing a K31 if you are looking for a cherry (who isn't). The K31 rifles available from wholesalers have been picked over hard the last year and your best bet is a local shop with one on the shelf. As reported look for matching #'s and at the bore. Then stock up on ammo.

Cracked butt, That is a nice beech stock, lots of grain. I would have probably mistaken it for walnut. What year is it?

For some really nice swiss rifles if you don't mind paying a premium for try here: http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php?cPath=22_83_141

Grab those 1911's! I can pretty much guarantee they'll be worth more than that. For all the fuss made about the K-31, the real Schmidt-Rubins are even more impressive. Plus there's less recoil. They're long, elegant vintage shooters kept in excellent condition.

Doing a test with the pic

I have not been having much luck posting pics. Anyway this time it seemed to be a go. This is a 1940 K31 that was refinished with the blo and shellac mix. I refinished the first 3 that I got, but the last 3 I left alone. It is not that shiny in person. After lookin at the pic, I need to crop them some more. So what do you think of my couch?? In retrospect, I should of never refinished the wood on this one either..

I always seem to miss the boat! So.... what's the next "wish I bought a case of 'em" deal so that I don't miss it? ;)

They're only shooter grade rifles so no big deal. I just want pick the best one from the group.

K-31 Stripper Clips

I for one always seem to want to purchase all the accessories for a particular rifle when I get one. Since I often shoot my K31 I spent a lot of time looking for the best deal on stripper clips. www.sarcoinc.com has them for $4.95 each or 10 for $14.95. The best deal I found was from a guy on Ebay.

I've bought from him a couple of times and he combines auctions and discounts the shipping. Fast shipping and the stripper clips are in very good condition.

I saw on another board where somebody sells the ammo (expensive) and throws in a few stripper clips which isn't a bad deal I guess. Just wanted to share that with those still looking for stripper clips.

Prior Planning Should Be Done In Advance!

For me the bore on any mil-surp is the most important thing. You can refinish the stock, you can touch up the bluing, but a fouled out or pitted bore you're most likely stuck with forever.

I got a K-31 that was missing some bluing on the receiver, and some Formula 44/40 creme made it look brand new. I absolutely LOVE that stuff, would recommend it to anyone who is into shooting and collecting mil-surps.
