Yipee! I picked up a K-31 at Big 5 yesterday for $99.00! It was graded as good but it is a bit better than that (very good?). The bore is excellent and the metal that counts is in good shape. Now I need to figure out where I can get ammo, preferably reloadable. Is the milsurp stuff reloadable or does it have a evil primer? Who makes bullets in 7.5? I checked Gun List and Shotgun News and did not find a listing for bullets, just milsurp rounds. If I can work up some loads I may actually hunt with the damn thing if it is as accurate as y'all say.

The only surplus out there is the Swiss GP-11. Great stuff, near-match grade, made in the 70's i believe, non-cirrosive, great ammo for the price (which is of course, far higher than most surplus, but far lower than any new match grade ammo). However, it is non-reloadable brass.

The only other option i'm aware of is WOLF, which is supposed to be importing reloadable brass cased 7.5 in the near future, don't hold me to that though.

While i don't reload (yet!), my understanding is that the Swiss 7.5 uses a standard .308 bullet, and Brass is availible through Graf, and a few other places, or .284 (iirc) can be widened at the neck to fit the bullet.

Hope this helps, my K-31 is one of favorite guns to shoot, beautiful piece, and extremely accurate!

Least expensive?

So if it is all the same stuff where have you seen it least expensive?

Thx,

congrats on getting one of the finest military rifles ever made. i got mine for $69. it required a lot of cleaning, but underneath that i found a near flawless bore and a buttery smooth action. the stock needed refinishing, as it was very dry and heavily dinged. it is one of the best shooters in my milsurp collection.

i shoot GP11, and which is expensive but usually available locally. gotta love the little "cigarette pack" ammo boxes.

I just ordered from my local shop 5 boxes (20 rd. each) of Wolf for $48.00. It was listed in their book, so it's apparently available.

I have a model 1911 rifle, very long gun!

I'd just recommend doing what I did

Graf's 7.5 Swiss brass -- 100 pcs for $27

Lee reloading dies -- $17

Utilize my 308 bullets I already use for 308 Win and 7.62 NATO

Ballistics and reloading info is darn close to the 308 Win.

No one has mentioned .284Win brass yet? You can likely find it at your local gunshop. Run it through the 7.5 Swiss resizing die, trim to length, and use it in your K-31. That's the only brass my K-31 has seen.

And use regular ol' .308 bullets. The folks at SwissRifles.com seem partial to the bullets weighing close to 175gr, since that's what's in GP-11.

Has anyone used the Serbian or Wolf rounds? I am interested because it is reloadable. If it is crap I will just get the GP11 and some brass for future use. The brass on Graf's site was NOT $27.00 per 100 it was $87.00 per 100:what: I will order something to shoot because I don't have access to my reloading supplies (building a home, stuff in storage) for the next two months or so. I am really interested in the Serbian ammo as it is reloadable and half the price of brass.

I believe this may be the most bitchin' all around site on the net for gun info.

Thanks to all and keep it coming; I have a whole new folder of bookmarks:D

Congrats, Ive got two, and am getting a 3rd. They are great rifles.
We k31 owners are lucky because the cheapest ammo (gp11) happens to be very accurate.
The wolf/privi stuff is said to be downloaded a bit. I recommend you buy a few boxes to try em out, and than keep the brass for reloading later. Hornandy makes a factory load with premium bullets for about $20/box. Thats supposed to be great stuff for hunting.
Darth Rugers links will give you hours of good reading. ENJOY!

my roommate was bitten hard he has 3, including one with an off-set scope mount. i did the loading for our rifles.
with the lee dies make sure your press is solidly mounted so you can apply enough pressure to set back the shoulder, i had quite a bit of trouble with that.

I have a large amount of GP 11 for sale. See my post in BY Sell and Trade Accessories.

Red Tornado.
You can still bid on Gunbroker. All the Extra is gone. The Gunbroker GP 11 is still available by bid.
