Howdy, folks. I was watching the History Channel today. They were doing a show about snipers and there was some hot-shot showing off his semi-auto Barret semi-auto .50 cal. Only thing was his trigger followthrough was next to none. The Corps taught me proper follow through with the trigger (not pulling your finger off as soon as you get a boom). I'm an experienced rifle shooter, but for the perfect shot in the prone position, how would you advise an experienced shooter to get his shot in the X every time. A response for scoped AND iron sights would both be appreciated.

I didn't see the show.

However, it's important to remember that the type of trigger changes the technique. Some crazy target triggers are set for a 2 oz. pull weight. That means you'd better not breathe on it too hard. You can't really follow through on one; it's more of a light touch and the gun fires.

A standard-issue military or hunting trigger is up around 3-6 lb. of pull weight. Totally different animal. You don't want to slap it -- although slapping is the recommended technique for shotgunning at a moving target, and I've used slapping to shoot clays with a .223 carbine. Hit a few, too.:p

All of that said, I do what the Corps taught you, on my run-of-the-mill .30-06 hunting rifle, and it seems to work.

I tend not to shoot prone, since I wear designer suits and silk ties at all times.;)
