Maybe I keep my 550D too well oiled but the lower arm assembly, which has 4 oil holes, tends to seep just enough that ever now and then I get it on my pants leg or the carpet in the room where its set up. I've tied a cloth around that lower end that works OK but I'm wondering if any of you other Dillon users have come up with a clever way to deal with this?

I use wheel bearing grease in a small needle tipped grease gun used to grease air tools on both of my 550's. Cost for the gun was about ten bucks. Works great.

+1 on using grease. My newest 550 has a grease Zerk instead of the oil holes on the bottom linkage. Might be offered as a factory upgrade?

Where did you get the small grease gun? Is it one of those that use the small cartridges?
I like the idea of being able to use grease, and Hondo mentioned Lithium white which sounds like a good choice.

I bought the grease gun on Ebay.It does not use a cartridge. Bought a tub of grease at the auto parts. Dillon told me they use wheelbearing grease when they do a refurb.:)

I spoke with Dillon yesterday on the phone (they are here in town) and asked about the conversion to zerks. About $110. They also told me the the ONLY part on the press that is supposed to have oil is the ram. All of the linkage pins should only have grease.

(Guess I shoulda read my book lol)

they have them at Lowe's, and yes, you just switch out the cartridge when you're empty

First, get the Strong Mount option. This allows the machine to be set back from the front edge of the work bench.

Then, since the press is set back, there's enough room under the press to add a doubled over blue shop wipe. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

Lastly, start using CLP. It doesn't drip.

RFWobbly: great idea, but my table is too high for that. Right now, I'm using an old rag wrapped loosely around the lower end held on with rubber bands. Works, but I'm going to try some grease when I find a small gun. Haven't tried CLP. Didn't know it wouldn't drip.
I have some but rarely use it.

According to Dillon, oil on only the ram. Grease on the the lever links.

You'd think Dillon would be able to house break their presses better.:)

Sorry for the distraction but I think of this every time I see this thread.

The thread is interesting and informative as I just took delivery on a BL550.

There is a small 3oz, hand held grease gun by KEYSCO (Grainger item #46D308) that will easily inject grease into those holes without zerks or any other kind of modification to the press.
