I just got my new Comp Tac paddle holster. See image

The problem I'm having is that my jeans fit me fine, not baggy and not snug. But when I put the holser on with my 1911 in it, the weight of the gun causes my jeans to sag way down a bit. I'm not wearing a belt. Would wearing a utility or policeman belt alliviate this situation and make the gun and pants stay firm?

Sure would. Try a 1 1/2" or 2" belt that fits snug. The tighter the belt the better the holstwr will stay where you put it. You'll notice it in movement and draw.

The paddle should also sit right on your hip bone, in my opinion. I've worn paddle holsters for years. A good belt does make a difference. I've also found the older type suede or leather paddles don't slip and slide as much as the kydex ones that everyone seems to be using now. I usually put the paddle all the way on the inside of my pants, so it usually rides against the tail of whatever shirt I have tucked in.

You definitely need a belt. A gun belt would probably be best, but any substantial belt that snugs things up would help. Also, I'd note that on the paddle holsters I have, the belt helps the holster stay in position when you draw; not having a belt means you're more likely to draw your gun and holster together.

Good belt is invaluable, even if your pants fit.

Was suggested on a TV show to wrap around your foot and use the buckle to break auto glass if your car is submerged (and you can't shoot the glass out THR Wise guys)

My current belt is a Double thickness of stitched leather, and a heavy buckle. Made by a gent doing business under "Animal Jack" leather. He sits there stitching with his hand operated machine, no website to be found... Randomly at the local Gunshows here.

The point being, go find a local tradesman if you can. ^^ never know what you might find.

You need a gun belt, one stiff enough to bear weight. Even with the paddle, the only thing supporting the weight is the thin cloth of your pant waistband. It need not be a police duty belt, which would probably not fit your pant belt loops anyway. My favorite belt makers, depending on the dress and social situation, are Wilderness Products (the 5-stitch "Instructor" model made of reinforced nylon) and Beltman (leather).
