If the government decides that they want to confiscate citizens firearms how would they go about it?

In states that require registration I can understand the simplicity. However, what about states that do not register such as Texas or Arkansas? To buy a firearm we have to undergo a background check but nothing more. We can buy and sell guns as we please without registration so how would they know what to come and confiscate? Thanks for your feedback and let's try to keep it on topic and in the realm of realistic answers.

hahahahaha....confiscate guns in Texas! That's a good one!

The Alamo would be a minor footnote after the guerilla war that confiscating guns in Texas today would incite.

Amen to that. However, they'd at least have to have a plan for it and I'm wondering how they would go about it. Thank G-d that it will most likely never happen.

There is no way they have records for private sales so even if "they" did find a way to try and take those of our guns we bought at a shop, they would only "know" about half our guns. They can't take something that doesn't exist. Personally I think if a guy heard a law had passed, he would have enough time to hide anything he didn't have on record.

People banded together to protect life and limb.

Troops move in and took their arms.....Katrina anyone?

Never again or from my cold dead hands; nice words until crunch time then the bluff a hard words change to "Yes Sir".

This has been covered in other threads but even though the citizens out number Government Law enforcement officials 10 to 1 so what! They are organized for the mission; you and your buds are not.

Infiltrate= You have a CHL or a registered fire arm?

Intimidate= We want everyone to turn in your guns during this time of National emergency. You will be given a receipt and after this passes your guns will be returned.

Exterminate= Remove the threat.

Has happened countless times before and the road map is very well written for any student of history.

We as a nation only have the Constitution to protect us from ourselves and the government.

Beware of those who come as a thief in the night to reword or change our constitution for any changes are like to be for the benefit of the few but at the expense of the many.

Australians are a pretty independant, rowdy bunch, and they forked over their SA's by the time the ink was dry on the law. Let's not under estimate the consequence of elections.

It could happen. It would be interesting who would stand their ground.
they would isolate anyone who fought back as a extremist through the media and make it look like people were against the greater good. LIKE THE TSA DOES NOW at airports.
There could and would be resistance but in reality the average person stands no chance on their own against an organized and equipped force.

Look at it now airports are clear 4th amendment violations. Search and confiscation with no warrant or probable cause. You simply have consented by showing up.

If you think what has happened in the past can not happen again you are mistaken.

This society like so many others can fall victim to itself.

Go to the sporting goods store. From the files obtain forms 4473. These will contain descriptions of weapons, and lists of private ownership.

yeah pretty much.....

not to mention you can opt out of the scanner in lieu of a pat down.....

no one is forcing you to fly.....flying is a service they provide..........

.....if walmart wanted to do patdowns to all customers, its their right to do so.

Sky and others nailed it, I have said for years that all they need to do is set a date and then those who don't submit will be will be served warrants and have their property confiscated. How many people who have their homes 3/4 paid off are going to make that stand alone.
The real hope lies in state leadership that will no bend to the federal will. Sadly here in Colorado that is not the case but I bet Texas and AZ would be taking refugees.
I don't care if you are one of these guys who doesn't own a gun with paper, there are associations through clubs, memberships, mail order purchase not to mention your neighbor who will lead the way to your guns.
Yes elections have consequences as do judicial appointments.

Here's how it would work.

New AWB followed by a series of similar piecemeal bans until pretty much everything is banned but each one of the bans excludes existing privately owned firearms which are grandfathered.

Private sales outlawed, leaving guns to heirs outlawed.

Let the gun owners die out of old age and collect their guns when they die.

Much to Diane Feinstein's chagrin there won't ever be an out-right ban, picking up every one of them... "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in" moment.

There is a difference between Wal-Mart and the TSA. Wal-Mart is a private corporation, the TSA is a government agency. Virtually everyone has a choice to go to some store other than Walmart. If you live in California and need to be in New York for some reason, you really don't have much of a choice to fly and in my opinion, flying involves a choice between two options that both violate the 4th amendment.

...to say nothing of Internet forums...

But the TSA (or some other government agency) could someday decide to set up shop outside Walmart.

Also you DO have an option to fly and avoid TSA; charter a private plane.

At any rate the TSA mess is going to sort itself out soon ... people stop flying and you'll see the airlines lobbyists start twisting arms to get rid of (or seriously reorganize) the TSA.

its not violated if you consent to it.

...if youve got to be in new york in 6 hours, that sucks but that's not the govts fault...either higher a private charter or take a train......

If it were me I would simply go get my S&W Sigma out of the drawer and hand it over

I really tried once to give it away to friends....it was a no go....everyone had the same reply..."what am I going to do with it"

I'm not so sure, katrina showed a lot about US that we maybe didn't want to know.

Some good responses guys. Thanks for them and keep them coming. Like I said, I'm not really curious as to whether or not a confiscation will happen but how they would accomplish it in the non registering states.

Zunfoldge, that's an interesting thought and seems doable.

Mdug59, I've honestly thought about the concept of people handing over a few guns and claiming to have sold the others.
P.S. Just to add, this thread was already closed once for rabbit trails and such so again I ask that we stay on subject to avoid further moderation.
