Self defense, plinking, hunting. In that order currently. I don't get out and go hunting as much as I would like to anymore. That used to be first when I would be hunting *something* every other weekend, now I'm lucky if I get out once or twice a year.

you neglected .... i suppose il just call libertarian patriot? ( too late for thinking)

i USE for
Target/sport
Defense
Collection ( for bot mechanical interest and historical value. i would rather have a beat dow K31, battle worn mosin, or Jap last ditch type 99 than some "limited edition" production model)

I OWN for no reason.
this is america i dont need a reason to be armed
i own beacuse i can, i use for all the above reasons

I also put "other" because I am a supporter of the 2A and want to protect myself and others from possible tyranny in government. The more guns out in society, the less chance of that happening.

I collect but not in the traditional sense...I'm very interested in history and buy the firearm that represents the period that I happen to be interested in at the time. Mostly 20th century military and milsurp, with a skew toward WWII

I compete in Cowboy Action, 3-gun, trap/skeet and just starting out in High Power rifle, so I have all the gear for that

I hunt, but not many of my arms are used there....a autoloading shotgun, coupla rifles, a big bore handgun or 3

I plink, thus the proliferation of .22s

I defend my family and nation, there for the Homeland defense rifles/shotties/pistols

I collect arms that I can afford and are of interest to me.
I plink with them all, .22's, 44mag, M1 garand, none collect much dust
I train with the ones best suited to defense and keep em close just in case
I have tried a couple competitions, even if you don't do well you can learn a lot
I also like to experiment, I am a reloader and got a couple guns due to my interests in a particular cartridge and it's potential more so than that particular gun.
I also like to try some amature smithing, I got a couple old beat up and nonfunctional guns of no particular signifigance, refinish them, fix them, then fire them, and I do some work to my store bought stuff.
IMHO firing a nice looking gun that would have been headed to the scrap heap a couple months earlier, with ammo you load yourself is probably the most rewarding experience any shooter can have.:)

I compete, hunt a little, I tell myself I'm a collector but I don't believe it. I shoot everything I own. A LOT! Maby someday, when I'm done, someone will add my stuff to their collection. :)

Competition, IPSC

Self defense...now that Nebraska has a CCW statute; and any darned day now when my permit shows up in the mailbox. I previously had a CCW permit when I was a resident of AZ.

Submitted my app (in person, per NSP policy) on Mar 5th, supposed to take 3 weeks. :cuss:

All of the above except dealer. Also all the others mentioned in this thread. Also you left out; pest control and instructor (pro & non-pro such as in Boy Scouts).

Some things I do not do and reasons people might own a gun are gun maker and civil war reenactor.

hunting and plinking.

I surprised by how few hunters we have here.....and also wonder what the "other" use is. Doorstop maybe? I tried once to tell my wife my guns were an investment......

I hunt but not with the frequency I did years ago.I used to be up and in the woods before dawn getting ready,Now, i pretty much only hunt groundhogs and varmints with some squirrel and rabbit hunting when the need and opportunity for something different presents itself.I have a couple that I bought specifically for hunts down south but never took the time nor money to go,maybe one day.

I enjoy collecting old guns and guns of a historical nature, guns with an influence on the way guns are made.I dont shoot in competition anymore,no time for it but still have my pistol just in case I decide to give it a go again. Its an expensive hobby, right now, my schooling at age 40 takes priority.
