How'd I do?

Now, I always like to buy a couple of boxes of ammunition to go along with my purchase if possible. Never know if you might need it on the way home. Then again, my rifles aren't packed in cosmo. The dealer I use usually has most of it cleaned off.

I'd have waited inside, too. Sounds like the best way to handle the situation.

Good advice Byron.
I think you did well. If I were 18 at my store, there would have been several patrons that would be glad(read downright excited) to escort me to the car. Then you migth have to worry about them following you (that would anger them prolly). You could always take a nice drive to the PD in that case.
Either way, you, your friends and your new toy are safe and that's all that matters.

It's a little scary that they would even act that way. They must have been stupid. And the question about the ammo???? My store owner would have probably asked them nicely to leave (with one hand in his right pocket of course). I think I'm glad that I don't live in Toledo!

I'm concerned that the clerk would even sell the bullets to guys dressed as gangsters asking if the bullets will kill someone in 1 shot.

No kidding. There's a certain local shop I don't give my money anymore for exactly that sort of behavior. I still frequent the one that doesn't hesitate to show the dirtbags the door:D

You might want to consider moving somewhere in the future, though. Somewhere where people don't know how different gang members dress. Somewhere where the police respond to calls.
I live in michigan, but toledo is the closest city to me, so I venture there to make most of my purchases. I grew up there, then moved and Im pretty happy that I got out.

It's not a store that I usually frequent. It was however, the only one within a driveable distance for me that had unissued SKSes. I wont be going back there again.

I was curious how you know what gang they belonged to based on color.
Its pretty common knowledge for teens in toledo.l The east side is overrun with crips (blue), the Old west end is overrun with bloods (Red), point place has its own gang but I dont know their colors, and all sorts of wannabes in between. Toledo has a lot of perfectly safe places, but Im finding myself thrown off lately, within the past few months a lot of places are getting more and more grimey, I find myself wondering if I should continue going to my favorite parts of town and be willing to fight, or stay away.
Its depressing really. My favorite hangouts were all in an old, middle class mostly hungarian (a lot of my family, a lot of my friends) neighborhood. now that area is getting filled with a lot of scum. I do my very best to stay away from bad neighborhoods, but its pretty hard when the neighborhood I grew up in is becoming a place I should avoid.

Thank you guys for your input, I am glad that I did okay, for myself and for those who were with me.

Regardless, they asked if these bullets would kill somebody in one shot, the woman said that depended on a lot of factors. The two thugs then proceeded to eye me up and down one last time, bought the .38s and browsed the store.

This, in light of recent events, is enough to get the cops involved quickly. Once they left you could have called in with a description of the people and car. Not exactly your place to decide if they are gang members, but not outside your place to point the cops in their direction.

Not saying you didn't do great, because you did. You are here and that's what matters.

I know some gun stores where if two shady types were lurking around and asked this kind of question, the store owner would tell them to get the hell out of his store.

I've seen people denied service in stores for a lot less.

you did good. Mind if I borrow your story for the next time my wife tells me I spent too long at the gun store?

Anyone who grows up in a city(with gang problems) should be able to identify gangs by color. You should also know what colors are neutral if you're going to be walking in a less than desirable area. For instance, my friend lives in a semi-crappy area, so walking around wearing all black can equal bad times. Even though it's obvious you're not in a gang, they'll might still take it as disrespect. It all comes down to not giving them a reason(like having something worth stealing is a reason, as is perceived disrespect) to mess with you.

That being said, you handled it very well. Asking if any of the store employees could have escorted you might have worked, but it's best to just avoid the situation, instead of having to defuse it.

Of course! Thats why its the cheapist box we have :scrutiny:

As to the colors I have friends some cities who could ID most every gang by colors and know what the neutral colors and the don't wear colors are. You go into a war zone you know friendly uniforms and enemy uniforms, some people unfortunatly live in and around warzones.

You did good though. There wasn't a whole lot you could do. Cops can't do much, they ren't going to drive all the way htere to escort you to your car for you to hope you aren't followed home. As to arresting them? For what? Unless there is a warrent theres nothing to arrest them for. Weapon? What weapon? Did you see a weapon? Not that I saw you mention. Two guys at a gun shop hanging around and a fellwo customer feeling scared is all the cops have to go by. If it was the shop calling that might be one thing, but the cops didn't even have enough to search let alone arrest.

Good job, staying out of trouble.

Should have called the cops

Should have bought 7.62

Should have been carrying regardless.

Screw getting shot in the chest and your girl getting rapped by a couple of gangsters.

I live out in BFE, TN and I know that the bloods wear red, and the crips wear blue. Even out here in the boonies we get the retreads from juvy hall who got into a gang there and try to come and start a new chapter. Most are wanna be's but a few are serious enough to eventually get themselves killed.
