Sling came in handy during one of the above-mentioned robbery attempts...
The 870 and the sound of it's racking kept our sliding door window glass from being broken in and the aftermath. While the wife's frantically dialing 911, an arriving Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy got into a scuffle with one of the group trying to bust into my home. He was trying to handcuff the guy, who broke loose and was rolling in the hardpan, reaching for the deputy's Glock. I watch this fight in disbelief, so I ran out the patio door to the yard. My 870, pointed squarely at the gang-banger's head, and me screaming "Stop! Don't Move!" stopped the fight. Which was good, the cop's bell got rung in the scuffle, his Glock was halfway out of the holster, and he needed my help to get the now-handcuffed big perp on his feet and on his way to the black Chevy Suburban that had driven up out of nowhere onto my front lawn. (Drug Unit) Glad to have a sling on the gun, so I could shoulder it and help Mr. Deputy Sheriff. Wish I had a digicam that day. And my home-defense shotgun has never been without a sling since then, nor will it. Granted, a lot of things could've gone wrong that day, but didn't, and I'm still alive. I'd like to think the 870 had a small part in that.
