Shot two of my carry loads, Federal 124g HST(standard pressure) into water filled jugs yesterday. Distance was about 5 yards. Nothing formal, but I was pleased to see great expansion out of the 3" barrel.

Water is extremely easy to expand in. I wouldn't say it's good that it expands in water so much as it would be really bad if it was supposed to expand, but did NOT in water.

I am not an expert, but I think this guy did some solid testing. This video link just discusses 147gr HST, but if you look at his other videos you will find ones where other popular defense ammo was tested.

I think they were all fired from subcompact guns as he was specifically trying to find ammo that would expand reliably from such a weapon.

"That's good to see!

Now do you have any gold dots on hand? :-D"

Actually I had to put a mature mule deer doe down years ago. My issued ammo was .40 180g gold dots. The two bullets I recovered were near perfect.

If you look at testing with standard gold dot in 9mm short barrel guns, it doesn't do so well. The short barrel gold dots do well though!
