Boy Injured When Gun Goes Off at School

Another case of an uneducated kid doing a stupid thing. He is young, I know, but he should already been taught how to NOT handle a firearm even if the firearm had not came from his home.
They need firearm education on what NOT to do, starting with the first day in school. Better yet, they also be taught what to do,.

Boy Injured When Gun Goes Off at School

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A gun in a bookbag discharged in an elementary school classroom Monday and the second-grader who brought it was shot in the hand, police said.

The injury to the 7-year-old was not believed to be life-threatening. Police were uncertain why the gun went off.

"It happened in the classroom, just as they were taking their coats off," police Sgt. David Sicilian said.

Columbus schools did not cancel classes, but some parents took their children from Leawood Elementary School. There were 15 children in class when the .45-caliber pistol gun went off, Sicilian said.

The boy's mother "indicated she had no idea where the weapon came from," Sicilian said.

The child was taken to Children's Hospital, but the mother would not authorize the release of any information about his condition, said Amy Ranalli, a hospital spokeswoman.

Kim Bell, 46, standing outside of the school with her fourth-grade son, said teachers tried to keep the shooting quiet so not to scare the other children.

"It's a very good school, very good teachers," she said. "It's not a school a kid would bring a gun to."

I very seriously doubt he brought it to school to hurt someone (from the little bit I've heard of ths).
I'm pretty sure he picked it up, because, "HEY, NEAT!"
This is why people need to teach kids about guns.

Yup, bad gun ed for that kid.

Can you shorten the title so that it is concise and informative? That is put in a title like "Kid brings gun to school...BOOM".

Thanks.

Local coverage here (175 miles NE) seems to indicate that the kid found the gun on the way to school.

This sounds like the sort of school where Eddie Eagle would not be welcome. :banghead:

No solid info yet, though, so it's anybody's guess what really happened. That won't keep the anti's from making hay with it.... :fire:

Regards,
