So, a week ago Friday we got a call from a fellow firearm manufacturer asking if my husband would be interested in appearing on the Discovery Channel show Sons of Guns. Ummmmmmmm... YEAH!

Here was the kicker; he would have to leave first thing Saturday morning and he would be gone for just over a week. OH GREAT I had to work this past week at my day job (federal fiscal year end) so things got a little crazy at home with having to work my day job and do everything for the business in the evenings.

So yes, he went and now that he's back I can say where he went. I have no idea what they did for this episode, just that he had a great time, it involved lots of shooting and stuff blowing up, and they want him back for an episode next season as well. We've been told 2-6 months before it airs to get all of the editing done.

Oh and he did say do not believe everything you see on tv, the vast majority of the drama is faked. The folks on the show get along fine in real life. He thought they were all great to work with.

He also had a chance to chat with the camera crew, and the only "reality" show that is "real" is Ghost Hunters; while the others aren't scripted they are definitely staged. Most crews only last a few months on Ghost Hunters before they get too freaked out and have to quit.

Today a mere appearance on a TV show... Tomorrow Hollywood! Ah yes, the glitter and lights. Movie role and stardom. :)

Congratulations to hubby and also congratulations to you, hey all that behind the scenes work and all. That plus fiscal truly sucks! :)

the vast majority of the drama is faked.
Faked or not, it is a huge turn off, and the reason I don't watch stuff like that.

Sounds like he had a great time. Very cool stuff.

Oh I know, I'll be the first to admit I've never seen it.

That said, if I were getting paid what they are, and the folks writing those checks said they wanted drama, I could certainly channel my inner... er... female K9... and give 'em plenty.

Very cool that we can see one of our own on TV!

Yep, me too. I call it "contrived drama". In actuality, reality is quite boring. And boring doesn't make it on prime time TV. I cannot wait until the day reality TV is passe and gone. There are a few good non-reality TV shows, but not many. Sports, particular college sports, are among the best things to watch.

Very cool.

I think it's all become "scripted reality" I have relatives that were on Househunters -- it's definitely faux reality. It's a show where they follow a couple who are looking to buy a house. In reality, my relatives had already bought and closed on the house before the show was taped. So the crew came along and taped them "house hunting." And then taped the "decision" where they decided to buy the house they had purchased several weeks beforehand.

Well, they cant script what some folks are up to, at least on the segments we do on LBZ. when were doing out thing, the cameras just follow, and we narrate ourselfs.

What they can do to "reality" with editing in amuseing enough, sometimes vexing, but I give our editors an 8 outta 10 for getting the story down.

I find it idocyric enough when "Reality" TV isnt, "Sick" is the new "Cool" and "political correctness" isnt the holding responsible all the elected officials that are in High Office for their oppression and breaking of our Constitutional Rights, and are criminals in accordence to their acts and words.

Very cool! That can't hurt business!

(I've still got to plan a stop in to see you guys one of these days I'm traveling through. Heck, now I can go see a TeeVeeStaaar!!! :D)

I disagree.
Being part of a fake contrived show about guns who's portrayal of gun owners is as bad as the technical garbage they spew, has turned many a gun owner away.
While the 15 minutes of fame is attractive to some, I personally would consider anyone involved in the show lacking knowledge or integrity or at least willing to sell them out for a few minutes on the tube.

I'm sure at this stage they are laughing all the way to the bank and there's enough people watching to keep their share ratings up enough to renew it which is really sad.

has turned many a gun owner away.

But how many gun owners have come into the fold because TV shows about guns demystify them and make them something that people want?

Like the show or not (I fall into the category of not), I think it probbaly does more good than harm, much like Top Shot, Duck Dynasty, Mountain Men, Life Below Zero, and any other show that shows people using guns in real life rather than "shoot 'em up" action movies.

Amen!

I find that very interesting! Having never personally experienced anything like that I am always skeptical of shows like Ghost Hunters. I will probably still remain skeptical until something actually happens to me, but I still find that report interesting.

On a different note, any show that shows guns being responsibly used and takes a little time to explain the existing laws is helpful. I sometimes like Duck Dynasty, but find Si shooting at every bush and stump to be inappropriate and paints gun owners as irresponsible nut jobs.

It's a reality TV show.
But.....Any show which promotes shooting and my wife IS excited about watching....is a good show.
She has never been excited to watch 'Top Shots', 'American Rifleman', Nugent, etc.
Although she loved the old Showtime (Josh T. Ryan) series Lock'n'Load. Not to be confused with 'Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey'.

I do hope they play more of Tab Benoit's 'Shelter Me' during the intro this season. Last season they just played the hook line after all the disclaimer yacking.

We get Sons of Guns over here and I watch it. No problem with it being faked as it is what it is ... I only watch it for the guns anyway.

Loved to know when your hubby is on it though ... maybe you could post which series and episode number he's in when you know.

All of those shows make me wonder if these people know how overpaid they are. It's amazing the amounts of money reality show actors, "they are acting" make. Like those housewives shows, some make in the 1 million dollar a year +, and act like they are having a hard time.
Like when the one "dun related" show was going to close because he screwed up a dozen rifles. Bravo and similar networks pay him a ten times what those guns cost.

I was in a new gun shop in Richmond a couple weeks ago. Well their gun shop is new, but they have done kitchen table and gun show stuff for a few years. Someone from another LGS came in and they were making fun of Duck Dynasty and then I mentioned Red Jacket, and the guy said they were contacted by Red Jacket to be on the show, they declined.

.

I'm surprised anyone thought the show wasn't fake. The biggest fallacy is reality tv. Everyone has their role.

Awesome you're in it though. For some reason I thought you meant Sons of Anarchy. lol. I was like is he an actor?

+1 :(

With the film footage shot, versus the footage on the edit room floor versus what gets shown, they are all not quite real. At home we set "Swamp people" and "Mountain men" to record new shows, watch "Life Below Zero" when we catch it including reruns.

There was a hillbilly reality show that had contrived episodes copying "Gold rush", "American pickers", "Dual survival" to the point I soon gave up. "Sons of guns" and "American guns" also showed signs of contrivance but it took a little longer til they were off the DVR record list. (Preferred "Sons of Guns" over "American Guns" but it is no longer must-see-TV are the abode.)

Drop a hint on what to look for in the episode summary.
