FWIW, Hugh Laurie was on the Tonight Show and I guess it is common knowledge that he is into guns. Hgh Laurie plays "Dr' House" on "House." Anyway He mentioned that he had taken his two daughters, over 18 to a range where they could fire full automatic weapons. He also mentioned that the same opportunity is impossible in England.

yea, i wasnt entirely impressed. he almost talked apologetically about it. but at least he was willing to have the experience. who knows what his real views are about the issue. though that bosnia quip may give a slight indication...

Hugh Laurie is also an author, having written at least one novel ... called The Gun Seller. In it he appears to be both positive and enthusiastic about motorcycles (Ducatis in particular) and guns.

My take on the mentioning of shooting in that interview is that he might appear apologetic, but that's probably because he's not sure how its going to go over with Leno and the audience.

What is clear is that he is not anti-guns.

I also found it refreshing to hear him speak with his native accent, mannerisms and speech patterns.

I've never gotten into House, so the idea of Hugh Laurie doing serious acting in an American accent is completely foreign to me. He and Stephen Fry are the best modern example of the traditional comedy duo.

House, serious acting? I think you've NEVER seen the show. He's hilarious while at the same time attacking serious issues. Best show on TV (at least one of them)

It's a great show, but I can only watch it because I'm completely ignorant of medicine (well, ok. Almost completely ignorant. I know "air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any deviation from this is bad."). In one of the two episodes with any substantive firearms content, the show descended rapidly into absurdity. I suspect that its medical content is as bad as its firearms content, I'm just blissfully ignorant of it.

That said, the show is brilliantly written from a snark/sarcasm standpoint.

I also love the show House. Tonight on the season premier he took a nice little jab at evolution. When his boss (Dr. Cuddy) asked him "where did you come from," he responded: "apes, if you believe Democrats." I got a nice little chuckle at this one. :D

Hugh's book, "The Gun Seller," is a great read. I'd love to meet him sometime just to talk about the book and any other writing he's done.

As for "House," bleh!

I can't get into "House" when I remember Hugh Laurie in the old "Blackadder" series.

His "House" accent is just too strange for me.

It is funny hearing his real voice after watching the show for so long. His opinion on guns was very vague. It is a take what you want, middle ground type of conversation. I still enjoy the show.

And no wonder after Tom Selleck was bushwhacked by "I refuse to utter the name."

Leno is a gentleman, though. As opposed to "I refuse to utter the name."

House is a great show. I do tire of the "same script differential diagnosis" on virtually every episode, but the show isn't about medicine, it's about House and his warped relationships and general views.

He's hilarious.

BTW,...in reference to the Rosie thing with Tom Selleck, she was baiting him, he handled it well and she come off as the same moronic, snot fer brains that she's always been known for being. It was not her intention to engage in a conversation. Only to set the stage then prevent Tom from giving any meaningful information that viewers might see as rational.

She's a twit at best.

Exactly. Anyone with a modicum of medical knowledge can poke holes in that aspect of the show all day long. HOUSE is a drama with some of the best dry humor I've ever seen. The fact that Laurie is pro gun just makes it much easier to justify watching.

Heh. My wife and I both really like the show, also his earlier work in Jeeves & Wooster and BlackAdder. She's a CCU nurse and does critique the medical bits. I get to critique the gun bits.

Even with the griping it's a great show. Highly recommended to anyone.

Script schmipt, Dr.Cuddy is hot!

Now you've gone and done it. Let me say, before this thread gets shut down, that not all of the fans of the show are gals goofy in the knees about Dr. blue-eyes, three-days-unshaven, warped-humanity House.

I think a good chunk of the viewership (90% of the men watching) have the hots for Cuddy. She makes Cameron (the other main chick) look like an underdone noodle.

And to get this back on guns, what was that snotty crack from Laurie about renting guns because it's an activity available in the U.S. and Bosnia? Didn't he forget about Iraq and North Korea? Despite the nose-in-the-air attitude, civilian guns aren't quite dead everywhere, even in eutopian Europe.
