Just read a Times article where the President’s son will plead guilty to misdemeanor charges for failing to file tax returns for a couple of years and will be sentenced to probation.

A part of the deal, his crime of lying Re: drug use on the Federal gun purchase form will go away if he stays drug free for two years. He also agrees to never being allowed to own a gun again.

If only she hadn’t filed tax returns, she would have been okay.

Plus, Biden only used crack cocaine, not the deadly marijuana she used.

Is there anybody here who actually believes the legal system is the same for all?

An indigent defendant with an overburdened assigned counsel who’s been pestering him to take a plea, he’s going down after a trial that may last a day or two.

The wealthy or well connected defendant with a “legal team” of several top attorneys, private investigators, expert witnesses, etc, they’ll overpower the local prosecutor after several weeks of trial and the defendant will probably walk. That’s assuming they get charged in the first place or haven’t been offered a sweetheart plea deal.

I started thinking things weren’t fair when Patty Hurst walked.

Plea deals happen everyday. Some more high profile than others. I guarantee this is not the most egregious plea deal to happen this week. Discussion of the wider failings of the justice system are not on topic for THR, and as it seems we are already firmly headed down that road, let's call it a day.
