I am in a weird situation being that my family is into shooting but there aren't really any hunters in the family. I want to get into hunting but as far as clothing I don't what to use. I was thinking of getting full camo and a blazed vest so I could bow, firearm, or blackpowder hunt but my scoutmaster says I should use the bdu clothing he issues us but I was wondering if without scentlok it would be hit and miss too often hoping the deer, waterfowl or whatever couldn't see or smell please help this misleaded 14 year old.

Scentlok is nothing more than a gimmick to pry away your money. The stuff doesnt work, the company is being sued for misrep, and besides, a hunter should take note of the wind, not rely on some magic clothes. BDU's arent much better really. You can die in those things. A good pair of wool pants with some duofold underwear and a decent sweater and top will work just fine. I guide in the Bitterroot Mts of Montana, and this is what I primarily wear. Dont worry so much about camo. Just wear nuetral colors and dont move when game is checking you out. Even with the most high dollar camo, if you move or wiggle when game is looking, game over. Wool my friend, is the way to go. You'll be better off than all the grownups in their hunting "costumes". Good luck boy, and go get a deer!

Walk hit it pretty close. While I do own camo, I wear neutral colors that blend with the terrain, mostly. Obviously, where blaze orange is required, do wear that for your own safety. Learn to watch, move quietly, listen, and pay consideration to the wind. Practice shooting & tracking & you'll do fine. Oh, and birds in general don't rely on their limited sense of smell like furry critters do. Enjoy! I've bought a lot of wool pants & sweaters over the years at surplus & discount stores.

I got sucked into the whole camo deal & probably spent a few hundred dollars that could have went for a better purpose; I'm stuck now & have to make make the best of my situation

I used to be a big fan of the camo 1 piece suits. More for utilitarian purposes then the fact they're camo. Waterproof, insulated, often times lots of pockets, and you don't have to wash it after crawlin around on the ground tracking or something.
The convenience factors alone made it worth the money for me.

I bought Cabelas camo for a few simple reasons. I like cabelas, I wanted an outfit specifically for hunting that I don't care about if it gets dirty, riped, etc. I chose camo because, well, why not. "m not decided if the "camo" part ever made a difference in my 3 years of hunting. I did choose clothing that was wind and waterproof cause you never know. Most importantly, dress in layers and be comfortable and prepared for bad weather.
