obviously your just a trophy hunter..and could care less about meat
Gunnerboy:
You're new here, so you get a pass, but realize that you have no idea who you are talking to there. Those Wyoming antelope tags he bought for $34 each are for doe tags. He's hunting for meat obviously, and a $34 non-resident tag is good info to you who can buy the very same tag and pack out the same meat. You should be thanking him for his input, rather than acting like this. I'm glad he posted the Utah non-resident prices, that's something that might come in handy for me later. Hunting is my hobby too.

The truth lies somewhere between the OP and exbiologist IMO. My fees are similar to the later and when compared to what I see residents in other states pay and how I feel the DOW uses that money at times I consider the fees to be in excess. That said, unless there are many doe tags available I agree that deer hunting barely if not rarely pays a return on the cost of gas. The same can be said of fishing and fowl unless you can catch the boils at Powell or the snows on the plains.

Our state certainly over charges for non-resident tags. I think Colorado charges more than New Mexico now, and that is going to affect our tourist economy (outfitters, hotels, airlines, car rentals, campgrounds, etc). DoW doesn't think about stuff like that. :banghead:

I know its a delicate balance but the money they waste killing fish and buying easements no one can use ticks me off, not to mention the resent revelation of their accounting mistake that reduced their account by 10's of millions.
I know we need the nonres fees but CO's OTC tags flood our non regulated GMU's with to many hunters IMO and to me it appears there is more consideration to $ than management.

I got my combo deer (one buck one doe) and my small game for $45 total, $15 each.

Seems like for MI residents, hunting tags don't ever cost more than $15 for standard game. Turkey are also $15, but I passed one fall gobblers this year.

Bear and Elk are done by lottery, and cost more. Having never gotten drawn for either, I don't know the cost. Buying into the lotto costs $4 I think.

Im in NW Alaska, and I pay 65$ for a hunting /fishing/trapping license. Caribou, Moose, Muskox, Sheep, Goats, Brown and Black Bears, small game, and fur (wolves, lynx, otter, ect.,ect.)

15$ more and I have a federal Waterfowl stamp and 5$ more , a state Stamp for Birds.

If I were over 65, its all free and a permanent licenses, if your poor, its only 5$, 'cept the stamps.

Between me and my family we have enough "family land" to hunt on I just hunt on that, no license needed for that. I have been doing a decent bit of duck hunting the last few years so I've bought one for that. The AL license is 24.20, I think.

the cost of the tags is nothing compaired to the rest of the costs; gas, clothes, vehicles, guns, boots, range finders, gps units, etc.

the value of taking your 14 yr old on his first elk hunt in three weeks? pricelsss.

Up here it's $48 for the resident hunting and sport fishing license, nothing but harvest tags required for the general season Moose or Caribou hunts. If you are a non-resident, tags are $400 for Moose, $325 for Caribou, and get this: $1,100 for muskox. $500 for Grizzly and $425 for Dall sheep, a licensed guide required for both those.

I am also in Virginia, and I was pretty steamed about the rise in price, yet we still cannot hunt on Sundays...not even on our own land. I wish I could deduct the hunting license stamp from my property taxes, or better yet, deduct the percentage that would represent my inability to use my land as I wish on Sundays.
