    Hello all,
was browsing the SKS boards yesterday to see what all they had and came across a familiar thread in the C&R section, a certain user asking for hunting pictures involving Mosin Nagants(you know who you are JS). this got me thinking about all of the hunting I would like to do with my military surplus rifles and have been contemplating taking my MAS36 out as a brush gun this spring, maybe even as a bear gun(black bear only, please don't lecture me on 1000 LB, Kevlar wearing, cybernetic Kodiaks that lift weights and snort crack). I'm just curious how many people still enjoy hunting with military surplus rifles and are still successful with them. sporterized, mint condition, run of the mill or super rare, all milsurps welcome. I would post one of my own but have yet to hunt anything larger than squirrels with any of mine... the pics would be graphic to say the least

I killed a spike with my 1909 Argentine Mauser this year but didn't take a photo with the gun.

I have never been much of one for taking pictures of my deer, but I did wish I had the camera for one of the deer I killed with my K31.

TimC, that's quite an impressive collection you have, hopefully I'll get a few pictures with different rifles. however I do have a question. just today on another forum a fellow from texas said that there is a 5 round limit for hunting in texas so I do ask how you got around using the garand?

Well my friend he was wrong, there is no limit on mag capacity while hunting in Texas and you can use suppressors too!

Actually the Garand only holds 8 rounds, the high capacity rifle of the bunch is the Enfield which holds 10 rounds.
    Thanks for the compliment!

interesting, wouldn't be the first time I realized this particular member didn't know what he was talking about. in any case, those are some nice hogs, aside from them being destructive creatures, I kindof wish I had some to hunt up here in this neck of the woods.

This is my main hunting rifle. DPMS LR308 with 20 round mag. This is a great pig buster. The Milsurps are just for fun.

Here's a picture of one of the bucks I took about 5 years ago. Hunting whitetail in the canyon country down around Sanderson, TX. Took this one from right at about 150 yds offhand, dropped him like a sack of potatoes.

Rifle is a Chilean Mauser Model 1895 in original 7x57 with a cut down and recrowned 24" barrel, sporterized by a San Angelo, TX gunsmith back in the mid 50s. I haven't changed a thing except put a Made in the USA Redfield 4X scope on top. I've got several loads for it that shoot well under MOA, and it's been my go to deer rifle for a long time. Much more fun to hunt with a rifle that's nearly 120 years old now.

1942 Mosin Nagant 91/30 sportized. Yeah it's a dow, I can't taste the different and drew the tag. Only about a 90 yard shot off a single stick, double lunged her the first shot and she kept moving so I double lunged her again. I've got this rifle posted up in a few areas but can post it again if you'd like. DSC00214.jpg

I have only heard of military Mosins in 7.62x54R. I have heard of a few people rechambering them, but that surplus Finn should still be in the original caliber.
