Hunting Scope for Redhawk

Rbernie,
What are you planning to hunt and at what distance? I use S&W M629 Classic revolvers in .44 Mag with 6.5 inch barrels for deer, wild hogs, turkeys, etc. at distances under 100 yds. My scope choice is Leupold 2X EER pistol scope. I found the 4X scope was too hard to hold offhand (too much wobble) and also had a very narrow field of view. The biggest benefit of a pistol scope to me is putting target and sights (crosshairs) into the same focal plane so they are both sharp. Magnification is less important and 2X suits me fine. As always, YMMV so pick what you like best.

Good shooting and be safe.

Looking to hunt fallow deer and hogs; distances will be less than 100 yards, and will likely be less than 75 yards.

I understand your comment about off-hand performance (exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for), but that really cuts to the heart of the question I've been asking myself - 2X or 1x with a red dot?

Some shooters like the red dot and some don't. I am strongly in the camp of NOT liking them or any sight that uses a battery. Guess I am just a traditionalist in my preference for scopes with crosshairs. And, as stated, to me the 2X is just enough to see the target better without too much wobble or field of view constriction. If you have to hold over a target, the crosshair is easier to judge horizontal and vertical aim IMO. But it is your gun and your preference that matters most for you.

One of my pistols is sighted in at 50 yds for 210 gr bullet at 1100 fps. The other one is sighted in at 75 yds with 250 gr bullet at 1400+ fps. When sighting in at 75 yds using bench rest, the average five shot group is smaller than my palm.

Good shooting and be safe.

My scope choice is Leupold 2X EER pistol scope.

I agree, spend a little more and get a Leupold. Here is my Redhawk, the mount is a Jack Weigand but I don't think he offers it anymore. If you see one used snap it up as they are top notch.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wound up getting the Weaver Classic 2x28. The price was right and all of the folks that I knew had 'em said the right things about 'em.....

LHB1 - your comment about the battery situation mirrored the one negative that I could think of with a red dot. The fact that most red dots that I looked at (other than an Aimpoint) had terrible parallax issues didn't help their cause. And, of course, the fact the Weaver could be had for less than half of the least expensive Aimpoint was certainly a real help in making this decision, too...
