Hunting scope

The Burris that @greyling22 mentioned ticks all the boxes, my Googlefu was failing to find that particular model. But, as I hoped, many others have mentioned other options that would also work, that I hadn't seen yet. So, thanks all, I definitely have options and decisions!

I love high power on a scope for everything except hunting, had a Vari X III 2.5-8X36 on my .308 for a very long time, love the wide FOV at 2.5. I finally replaced it about four years ago during a Leica 50% off sale......with a 2-10X50.

That said, 300 is the outside I will need it for, but, that said, you don't need over 10X to shoot even farther than that. You need good light transmission and a clear image.

I am looking for a possible new scope purchase. Budget $400 (I know ). Primary use Eastern whitetail at max 150 yards. Secondary use friendly target shooting to 400 yards. Want decent clarity throughout range. Need paralax adjustment, preferably side. 4-16 power. Zero-set turrets and crosshair rather than BDC.

The Burris E1 checks all boxes, except for the E1 crosshair, which I worry might be hard to see in low light hunting (already have E1 plex 3-9, without paralax), but it IS within budget, otherwise. Can't find a boring plex reticle anywhere. Leupold with features is over budget (have a VX Freedom 1.5-4X, clearest glass I own). Vortex seems to be hit or miss lately, as if they are cheapening quality within the old model names (only owned red dots and a Crossfire scope, personally, but not a lot of faith from me). Athlon only looked through spotting scopes, but like them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you looked at the Burris Drop Tine? They may be discontinued now - I don’t know - but I picked up one during the China-flu lockdown for around $200. Looks to be an outstanding choice for a deer rifle for the Eastern US.

I have, my father has one. The E1 has better glass, to my eyes at least, but yes, still a good scope.
