Hunting Squirrel or Possum

eat a possum? Good lord...

There are so many good animals to eat, how do you land on "possum"?

My mother has a copy of "Joy of Cooking" old enough that it has game recipes in it. On the subject of possums it advises catching them live and feeding them a mixture of milk and cereal for a week to ten days before killing them.

Well, I can read between those lines.

Raccoons are smart and nimble. Possums are dumb and slow. The only way they can survive is that they will eat things the raccoons won't. Now that's a sobering thought!

correction natman, a raccoon will eat ANYTHING that a possum will and more of it! Plus a possum is anything but slow when it chooses to be.

Squirrel is great, I'd starve to death if it depended on Possum.

Squiurrel is good, but can be tough if over cooked. I used to quarter them, dredge them in flour, brown in butter, and put in a baking pan with a little water and white wine cover with foil and bake until tender (this is callled "fricaseing" IIRC. I had some really great times squirrel hunting (and always eat what I shoot).
'possums are varmints, I would no sooner eat one than a rat.

I have heard of people trapping and feeding opossums corn meal for a couple weeks to "clean them out." I have heard that they are pretty damn good after that... I squirrel hunt every year.

can remember was at my Grandma's when I was a pup. Fried squirrel, cathead biscuits with squirrel gravy. Homemade ice cream for dessert. I kept asking which one was the one I shot. Of course you need a "mess" of them to make a decent meal

There is not a thing wrong with redneck surf and turf. Really kinda makes me hungry. The only thing I have done this week is sleep and eat.

When I was dating my wife I was sitting in the living room watching tv. It was dark except for the tv. I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye and watched in amazement as a possum came out of the bedroom area into the living room. I told my future bride about it and she told me it lived in a closet. It was an old house as they were poor, but I thought it was kinda funny.

It really has been a long time since I've had squirrel last. I think im gonna go out tomorrow morning ang get 3 or 4 for lunch. Im gettin the fever again.
